how do you format a mac hard drive?

I have a terabyte drive that's formatted for PC, but would like to wipe it and make it writable from my MAC side. In fact all my drives are PC, an will eventually make them all writable for mac. MAC can read them, but not write to them.

if ur on an intel mac, it should be able to write to the PC drive, atleast if NTFS, perhaps its some user permission issue?

I think that might be what it is. I use bootcamp to run vista, and would have still been running vista but I was sort of forced to try the mac, and just fell in lovw with it. I kick myself in the crotch for not switching sooner.

Problem is, I'm still a mac virgin. Things aren't as complicated as with a PC and so I'm 'overthinking' how to do shit.

Permissions were and still are a bitch from time to time on my mac is I learn. Trying to edit files that I created in windows and copied over etc.

I thought most of your MacHeads just went out and spent $3000 on a new Mac when you need to format a hard drive.

No, We spend 2480 bucks on the new Mac Pros, and the last 20 we spend on your mom. But the mac store was closed at 6 AM when I posted this, and your mom just left so the alternate solution was to come to GFY and ask.

Oh.. BTW, Happy Holidays. :) :winkwink:

At least I learned something from this thread. I didn't even knew Macs have the same hard-disks as PCs.

Yep. I've cracked open a few hundred HD's in my day. They're all the same, but I've never used a mac before. I'm still very knew to it, and want this HD to work on mac.

RedShoe,

You dont have to reformat all your drives. Since you just got your mac, im sure its intel based so your cool.

You need to download a software called NTFS 3G. Its free.

Install it and your mac will be able to easily read and write to NTFS (windows) drives :)
