How many numbers do you have to dial to reach your next door neighbour

How many numbers do you have to dial to reach your next door neighbour?

i.e. a local call

stickyfingerz 12-21-2008 04:52 PM

Depends my voip phone is 10, actually you have to dial a 1 also, but I think there is something in the adapter settings I can change to make it 7. Cell phone is 7

uno 12-21-2008 06:05 PM

10, i really miss when it was 7, but that was a LONG time ago in jersey.

woj 12-21-2008 06:11 PM

10 here too

Peaches 12-21-2008 08:25 PM

10 - they just started it a few years ago. This is such a tiny little town but the area code is most of North GA AND some towns south of ATL (which is crazy).

When I was in college we only had to dial 4 digits because everyone had the same exchange. And when my grandfather had his farm he, my cousins and 3 other families were on a party line. It's an interesting process to dial someone on your party line ;)

Spunky 12-21-2008 08:29 PM

frank7799 12-22-2008 05:24 AM

Depends on the age of the telephone connection. Some old ones have 4 digits, today they are at least 6 digits, but in most cases 7. Itīs all without area codes. Local calls donīt need an area code.

paymeback 12-22-2008 06:30 AM

6 here :) lowest so far!

CurrentlySober 12-22-2008 06:38 AM

6 here... (In the UK)

pornguy 12-22-2008 07:27 AM

11 to a local cell and 7 to a home phone. If I call from the Vonage phone locally the 11 goes to 14 and the 7 goes to 11

Zuzana Designs 12-22-2008 07:35 AM

I have to dial 11 with my phone service..

candyflip 12-22-2008 07:40 AM

Can't say I call my neighbor, but here in Western NY it's 7.

When I lived in Orlando it was 10.

Fucksakes 12-22-2008 07:46 AM

10 here in ottawa.. back at my parents.. only 4 from what I remember, been awhile

rowan 12-22-2008 08:03 AM

8 in Australia. Used to be 6 or 7 until the early 1990s when they renumbered and/or added a leading digit.

StuartD 12-22-2008 08:09 AM

10 digits here.

I remember finding an old phone number at the family's lodge... it was only 4 digits! Must'a been much easier on those rotary phones.

brassmonkey 12-22-2008 08:11 AM
