**CraigsList cracks down on Internet Hookers with a $10 A Post Fee ! **

Craigslist is a mecca for "sex workers," who flood its "erotic services" listings with come-ons promising -- in loosely veiled terms -- sex for money.

In an attempt to upgrade its growing reputation it is taking additional steps to crack down on these listings. In March it began requiring a phone number -- followed by an automated verification call -- before listings would be placed. Yesterday the company said it would take the additional step of charging up to $10 per ad placed, requiring that a credit card be used for payment. The money collected will be donated to charity, including those that fight human trafficking.

no what they are cracking down on is their business model, do you know how CL use to make money? They had a job section where people who wanted to hire people would pay a 25 buck per category fee to place an ad, well guess what with very few people looking to hire their revenue started dropping and they needed to figure out a way to make up for that.

No wonder I cant find a good maid this week

AaronM 12-21-2008 09:35 AM

I hope they do the same thing with adult gigs. It would be nice to see all the bullshit posts and scammers removed from there.

Q: Is craigslist a nonprofit?
A: No, craigslist was incorporated as a for-profit in 1999.

youd get rid of 98% of the ads in that section

aztecboi2003 12-21-2008 10:27 AM

Most of the cities I saw were at $5 a post. But that's why www.desivio.com was created. Looks just like CL and it's absolutely free to post on.:thumbsup

So are you just letting all your clients know you are no longer listed there?

seeandsee 12-21-2008 12:04 PM

this will crack on them :)

Si 12-21-2008 12:11 PM

Thats me out of a job then :( haha

Hawkeye 12-21-2008 03:14 PM

Bullshit, they're not "cracking down". If that were true, they'd eliminate Erotic Services completely.

Instead, Craig Newmark has made himself the world's biggest pimp.

Like many free services that emerge on the net, ususally once a certain size is reached it becomes the time to go looking for income streams.

It wouldnt surprise me if all ads placed on CL cost $$$$ in the next few years.

Im sure many would be willing to place ads at say $2- $5 a shot as its still cheaper than newspaper advertising.

Johnny G 12-22-2008 05:35 AM

Of course this additional overhead will get passed on to the customers. Hopefully they will have coupons or holiday sales.

Just looks like it ?? I think more like a total clone lol.

I know a few on gfy post on CL, If they charged say $2 for every section to place ads would it stop people posting ? or would it turn into a huge money making machine I wonder ?

Kudles 12-22-2008 04:07 PM

mozadek 12-22-2008 04:09 PM
