Okay, I do not understand Twitter

This tool seems like the most pretentious "social networking" device yet. What exactly am I missing?

When I am sitting on the toilet should I enter into my phone "taking a crap" so all of my friends know that I'm getting enough fiber?

And am I the only one left in society that does not want the world to know what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and when I'm doing it? I do not understand this need to be constantly "in touch" with everyone in existence.

Its fun for a short while but then gets boring. I havent been on there in months. good for promoting a mainstream site though

mynameisjim 12-20-2008 02:09 PM

I don't get it either. But then again, I've never had a myspace or facebook account either.

I guess I have to wait for web 3.0

leek 12-20-2008 02:11 PM

I try to explain it as a new type of 'away message'. Some people incessantly change their away message, others Twitter.

d-null 12-20-2008 02:14 PM

other than the spam, myspace was still the best of the lot

A type of "away message"?

If I don't answer my phone, I am probably away.

I meant IM away message, like on ICQ or AIM.

marketsmart 12-20-2008 02:19 PM

Yes, and a good source of collaborations and possible business too.

I follow Rick Sanchez and Don Lemon so far on Twitter, any suggestions on other reporters?

I follow CNN Breaking News and my local paper, that's all I've needed so far.

I love the 140 character limit. It makes people think about what they post. It is like Haiku for the digital era.

Ava Knight 12-20-2008 04:21 PM

I put my Twitter feed into my site and blog so my members can keep up with my daily activities :) It's like texting your boyfriend/girlfriend about what's going on, for me.

Ethersync 12-20-2008 04:34 PM

Anyone care to share their Twitter URL?

Seth_CowStream 12-20-2008 04:46 PM

I follow Lance Armstrong on Twitter and now I know what he eats for breakfast.

It is a good way to follow friends that are out of state. You can only post a brief mesaage.

HomerSimpson 12-20-2008 06:09 PM

Si 12-20-2008 09:11 PM

Twitter is good for the shitter, but so bad for the rep.
If i'm on the shitter, i prefer to go fuck yourself instead!

tony286 12-20-2008 09:13 PM

I'm with you.

I did the MySpace thing for about a week and that was the end of my social networking.

Chances are, if you don't already know how to get in contact with me and me you, it's for a reason. If you were that important to begin with we would have stayed in contact. :2 cents:

I am sure you are laughing because you have no friends to keep in touch with. That is what happens when you are a constant dick. You are one bitter little man. :thumbsup
