ICQ a bit archaic?
So I was telling one of my friends that we mainly use ICQ to IM, and she was shocked.
Her response: Quote:

Did you remind this braniac that there was no internet in the 1800's?
Oh no wait. Was there? No. I'm pretty sure there wasn't. Fuck.. let me get back to you. |
I've always wondered why ICQ is still the client of choice in the adult industry. Crappy interface and fraught with user issues.
|
its the gold standard!

Her math is glorious.

That was actually just be trying to be funny...who knows if it worked or not |
When I first got into adult, I was also shocked that the standard was ICQ.
I had to remember what the hell my old ICQ number was from the 90's. |
This has been brought up 1000 times and my answer is always the same, as soon as someone wants to convert my 100s of contacts to another more modern format then I'm game for changing it. I, like many others in this biz, just don't have the 100s of hours it would take to convert all my contacts.
|
ICQ is the standard in our industry. Some of us remember a time before ICQ and how difficult it was to chat with each other. I remember using something called talk.exe, which included looking up your IP address and emailing to the other person so you can hook up with each other.
These days I've noticed more people using Skype, and even a few people using Gmail's chat feature. |
I actually like the ICQ network... it's plain and simple. That's all we need. We don't need all of the bells and whistles to talk to people we work with.
|
Archaic for sure - I actually prefer AIM over ICQ but not as many people use it. Skype comes in quite handy - but my 100's of contacts are on ICQ ... so ICQ it remains!
|
I gotta tell you I tried to find everyone I had on ICQ on Skype and migrate over to Skype over the years. Skype has great VoIP, awesome video conferencing, and fantastic ENCRYPTED IM'ing. It is very solid and cutting edge.
|
why the fuck do ppl here use icq ? i wondered that myself.
|
When I first started in the business I had the same reaction and though 'what the hell, people still use icq?'
|
you can defiantly tell the newbies in this biz asking about icq :1orglaugh

Using ICQ and Skype and don't plan to change anything, good part about skype is that it stores the IM conversations into the html file and you can watch the past conversations in the same window if you continue after a bit, that is handy. |
