I got bit by an EEL! (pics)
I reached under a rock overhang, hoping to encounter an octopus.
Felt a sting, pulled my hand out quickly and it was COVERED with blood. 2 deep razor cuts on both sides of my finger. Andicat gave me her band-aid to help stop the bleeding. Lifegaurd was shocked. All cleaned and bandaged now... should be okay. But, seriously!?! an EEL BITE!?!? Truth is... it was an awesome experience. I'm sorry I pushed boundaries with the ocean. Lesson learned. after the bleeding stopped: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3091/...7c1824b47a.jpg today: (both sides) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3176/...c024f6616d.jpghttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/...071e35a092.jpg |

The lifeguard was shocked that you were bleeding pink?

If you aren't certified yet then you should get certified ( I mean to dive; I don't mean for being crazy enough to stick your hand in a crevasse under the sea) so we can go dive Catalina and La Jolla when I come down...:thumbsup
|
Damn you are now a fucking man! (PS Don't ever challenge the ocean, it has wonders you'll never even begin to understand)

yep eels can bite.. glad you are ok, I keep a Tire Track eel in my tropical tank. He is only a baby atm at around 6 inches long but he will grow to over 2 foot in lengh. My little bugger will snap at most things if he thinks he can eat it. I feed it on bloodworms, earthworms and frozen brineshrimp. The little bugger will snatch the food from my hand if I wave the food in front of him..
One of these babys is what I got http://a1272.g.akamai.net/7/1272/112...-Track-Eel.jpg |
I get frost bite where I live. :(

the sea creeps me out (and I live 200 metres from it) - when I swim I always feel like I'm going to encounter some really hideous creature
|
That's fucked up man, you should be more careful next time...
|
Free flowing pools or still tide pools?
Just a word to the wise - some smaller tide pools that dont get flushed are effected by hand oils. Next time youre there, find a pool that is still ... dip a dry finger in the water and look at it at an angle... you will see your oils just course through the pool. Im not saying you will destroy a mini habitat - but you may effect smaller pools for the worse. Possibly just make the hermit crabs evacuate n such - not sure what marine creatures you have in your pools in your area... just letting you know if you didnt... |
Yikes looks painful
|
Just be glad that it wasn't a Moray that got you. I've seen divers in South Florida lose digits while lobster diving by sticking their hands into the wrong hole.
Those little bastards are nasty but make nice wallets. :thumbsup |
Oh, also, make sure you wash and disinfect the fuck out of the wound. Marine animals carry so many forms of bacteria it's ridiculous. It might look like a small wound now but could turn into a full blown flesh eating infection.

too bad it wasn't a moray eel
|
Whats all this cockfoolery.
