Wordpress 2.7 is out
 

Dam...I just about finished upgrading to 2.5 and then I see this.

Anyways it looks pretty cool. Totally different look in the admin. Check it out.

Do I dare upgrade? Last time I upgraded I lost all my categories.

I've never had a problem upgrading. Just backup your database first and follow the instructions.

One of the 2.6.x versions (not sure which) has been reported to eliminate categories, and I believe that this was caused by the different table structure that the new versions of Wordpress use.

However, I can personally verify that upgrading to the newest version of 2.6 (I think it's 2.6.5) will preserve your categories, and so I'm confident 2.7 will do the same.

I will test it on a new blog first.

use wp-upgrade and the whole process will go smoothly.... never had a problem upgrading...

actually its still in BETA.. I would be careful using longterm blogs

Lame upgrade... like changing from XP to Vista.. why?

If you look at the beta versions you can see what's coming down the pipe... if you get the "bleeding edge" betas it looks completely different...
