Phoenix people, question please.

Sunday when I was driving out of PHX I went by a couple "photo enforcement zones" on the freeway.

Is that counting people in the carpool lane or is it monitoring speed? If speed, what is the grace?

Altheon 12-09-2008 06:54 PM

It's for speed and you can be 10 mph over the limit before it snaps a shot of you.

billywatson 12-09-2008 07:11 PM

Yea, if you were speeding, wherever your car is registered is about to get a letter...

OG LennyT 12-09-2008 07:32 PM

Lots of photo speed traps heading west until you pass the Miller exit... I always stay about 8 mph over and never have a problem

hmmm, I looked and did not think I was 10, more like 5. There was a car to the left and a little in front of me. But that flash seemed directed at me.

It is for speed and they have camera's. You will know if they caught you when you get a letter in the mail. It sucks, I have had a couple.

Ninja_Pete 12-09-2008 08:23 PM

The Phoenix area is loaded with them. They are popping them up all over the place. I already got 1 ticket in the mail.

baddog 12-09-2008 08:29 PM

So, what are you guys doing to fight these? Anything?

Way3 12-09-2008 08:36 PM

They are putting up about 40 of them, plus they have mobile ones that they move around all the time! Stay less than 10 over and you should be ok.

There is not a lot you can do. I have also been caught by the stupid van that they park on the side of the street.

aniloscash 12-09-2008 10:40 PM

I heard it was 7 mph but you get a nice new photograph of your ugly mug

That is pretty weak if they are popping you for 7 over.

stay within the speed limit?

baddog 12-23-2008 08:57 PM

How long does it take to receive one of these tickets? Am I in the clear two weeks later?

Rochard 12-23-2008 09:16 PM

No one drives the fucking speed limit on the freeways. This is nothing more than a way for them to generate income.

Years ago at the Phoenix Forum I got nailed outside the hotel. Fuckers.

However, at the time these were run by a private company and not hooked up to the city. In other words, this private company would generate the ticket, send it to you, and local law enforcement didn't know about it until after you sent them a check. In this case, I never paid it and never heard a peep about it.

baddog 12-23-2008 09:18 PM

Thanks, but not sure how that answers my question.

No not in the clear yet. I was sent my ticket almost a month later. They have thousands they have to send out. If you do not have one by the first week of January, I think you should be ok.

Usually only takes about a week to ten days. There's an easy way to get around these with a little known loophole. In Arizona, for them to enforce a photo radar ticket, they have to serve you the actual ticket unless you reply back to their initial mailing admitting it was you driving in the enclosed picture. If you send it back and admit to it being you, then you must pay the fine or go to traffic school. If you do nothing, they will have to actually serve you the ticket. Since they have thousands of these photo tickets they just rely on the fact that a certain % will mail back the ticket. I forget what the period is, but I believe they have 3 months to serve you.

The local news out here ran a segment on the Arizona laws concerning photo radar and how to get out of them by simply doing nothing. My wife has had a couple photo tickets over the last year and I simply ignored their first mailing and nothing every happened. Since you're out of state baddog then you really have nothing to worry about.

Here's the local news segment on it. http://www.abc15.com/content/news/in...3sylu25kg.cspx
