I'm about to shoot my first real pinup today. Any suggestions?
 

One of the guys I shoot for regularly has asked for a pinup style shot. Post some of your favorite pinups for my inspiration please. It's going on the cover of a DVD, and he only wants this one girl so it's gotta be sexy and classy.

Any suggestions? Tips? Advice? (and for the foreigners "advices")

I know you will have your lights handled... so makeup, hair, and props...

Getting the right mix of those 3 can make or break a pin up.

Remember that pinups weren't about nudity but were more about the tease. If you look up pinups online and look at a lot of vintage cheesecake you'll see the classic poses.

yeah, I don't plan on shooting her to nude (at first). I want them to be really sexy.

I'll look up the cheesecake pics. Trust me this girl has eaten her fair share of cheesecake if you know what I mean.

well, I just got back from the shoot. My first pinup style ever. I'd say it was more film noir than pinup, but that's what the director wanted.

If by light caliber you mean light meter. I have one. But define "mess" do you mean because of all the harsh shadows and the stylized lighting of the black and white image? Did you miss the part where I said he wanted more of a film noir look? Or were you referring to a different mess.

Very Nice thread, this got me to checking out the vintage/pin-up style make-up and hair.

I'm excited, I plan to shoot my girlfriend at the end of the month, after I make her over, Pin-up style.
I also think, what can make or break the "pin-up look" is what prop's are being used.
Shabby chic, vintage, and antique's prop's really seal the deal.

Having the right style of lingerie, and a damn good make-up artist/hair stylist.

Its not gay if you save 90 to 130.00 per shoot just for a makeup person, and another 90 to 130 for someone to do their hair. lol And half the time I do her nails too. :1orglaugh I did autobody and auto detailing for years, so I have the steady hands to do that shit already. Why not ya know? lol Plus I have a better eye for fashion than most girls do ( ok thats a little gay, but I know what guys like ) :winkwink:

I don't do makeup anymore though. Now I just show up, shoot the pics, occasionally shoot video, and leave.
