Seeing more and more suspended accounts

Over the past few months I have been seeing more and more suspended website accounts for non payment. Was going through my links again and found another two today with the message "this account has been suspended please contact billing"

Things must be getting hard I guess...any other webmasters finding the same thing ?

Agent 488 12-08-2008 01:54 PM

really feels like things are dying out. boards are slow, boards that used to be cracking with biz deals not so much anymore, some sites left to die, others are selling out, paysites quitting updating etc.

Less is not zero. The positive ones that will remain get more market share I guess.

d-null 12-08-2008 02:04 PM

for sure

a couple of years ago the mentality was that you could throw crap up on every domain you owned and you would make money off of every one of them, now it is going the other way :2 cents:

Maybe its just because its near Christmas and they are pre-occupied with other things at this time of the year

:2 cents:

It can only get better not worse.

The people that stick around and ride out this downfall with benefit greatly in the end.

As for the quiters, fuck em' they can go back to their regular 9-5 jobs at Mc Donalds or washing cars.

alexchechs 12-08-2008 02:51 PM

I think it's a good filtering out period for this line of work

Not sure that I agree, that's what I thought in October, then November, and now it looks like this is going to be my worse month in at least 6 years.

I don't see adult getting ANY better in the next year or two, might be better to spend more time building mainstream sites than adult, just my 2c

Think he means when and if a lot of adult sites go. The ones which are left will have a greater share of the market

how do you see it mid/long term, like 2 years +?
you think it will be better/easier than now again?

I thought the same at first but this whole economy thing is going to make a whole rash of new people coming in who will be happy to make a few hundred extra a month. Every Joe surfer and his brother is going to be wanting to make it rich on the net while they are sitting at home collecting unemployment.

I've already noticed a rash of newbies on several other boards.

True, but most will be gone again in 3-6 months, I wouldn't want to start from scratch today, at least not without money to invest.

Pornwolf 12-08-2008 06:52 PM

What are they gonna do, submit galleries?

You can't just come into the adult biz and expect to make a livable wage quickly without knowing anything anymore.

venus 12-08-2008 07:05 PM

the last recession in 2001 closed down alot of sites also, almost everyone I know lost at least half their members, this is not hearsay from somoene who knows someone, this was from the owners them selves. But the last recession did not last as long as this is is going to. the problem we have now is that Bush is not doing anything to make it better, its like he is just saying screw it, let it go and Obama can fix it when he gets in office.

this one is going to be real bad. over 2 million jobs lost this year so far, big businesses closing down or laying off, filing bankruptcy, small businesses just plain sucking ass.

spacedog 12-08-2008 07:18 PM

Fuck the people who quit..

If a domain and years hosting can't pay for itself, then they're doing something wrong.

The way I see it, all I have to do is make $2000 and the websites pay for their annual overhead.. everything above that is profit and time.

(not counting content, advertising, etc.. only domain and hosting)

I started with hardley any money at all and now make a profit. It is hard work put it is def worth the effort in the long run. When I started my first site I thought I could just throw a site up and would be very wealthy in a very short time, unfortunatly that did not happen. I think a lot of people think the way I did when I first started and thats why they just give up or end up being very disillusioned with the adult biz. I think you can make money from porn with very little startup money if you have the will and the staying power.
