STORIES?! question

anyone run a fantasy/story website?

is that business any good?!

Spoonie Luv 11-10-2002 03:13 PM

I have a free site with true adult stories I write. I like to write (hobby/therapy) and it seemed like something different. I'm a little too freshmeat to give much input, but I've done okay with for free sponsors.

SleazyDream 11-10-2002 03:13 PM

it sucks. Sleazydream.com doesn't make any money and it takes 15 hours a day to maintian but at least people have an idea of who I am from GFY.........

literotica.com would be the largest story only website that i know of.

LoveMatch 11-10-2002 03:28 PM

xxxstorydatabase.com used to have some, but its a popup for pinkbits.com now. Thay had like 10k sotires mostly ripped from news servers though and alot of the sotry content was... well illegal (dealt with underage)

I don't know I look at story content as just added icing on the cake, its there for when your members get bored at looking at the images/movies and what have you.:2 cents:

stanton 11-10-2002 03:59 PM

so i guess it is a dumb idea..

LoveMatch 11-10-2002 04:01 PM

Depends on how well you push it, maybe make a site with tons of stories and then give users ability to write their own and add it to your database.

I used to do real well with them back in the day but haven't done much in the past few years, should still do well though I think if promoted right.

Gramma 11-10-2002 04:24 PM

Stories do well as an additional sales item on sites that sell things that cater to the more mature educated surfer.
They like to read - they like the stimulus of the written word.
They read the articles in Playboy :)

Sexytexts sells well - but the traffic has to be filtered. You have to throw in fantasy - but be steer clear of the 'illegal' i.e. rape, incest. At least I do.

Why ?
I can name dozens of best selling books that sell in real world bookshops that include this subject matter.

stanton 11-10-2002 05:04 PM

just watch FEARDOTCOM , rape

Jamdin 11-10-2002 05:29 PM

Yeah, many readers want the hard fantasy stories (rape, bondage & torture, incest, beastie & cp). If you go with one niche-type of stories, stick with it & build a site around that niche just like the pics. Mixing pics & stories works the best providing the pics match the action of the story. You'll probably be better off doing AVS site rather than story-gallery site. Some sponsors work well with stories but most don't. Readers seem to want it all for free just like those who enjoy pics but they seem to be ten time worse.

Just my two cents...

TDF 11-10-2002 05:32 PM

www.shylock.com One of the biggest age verification incest sites

Gramma 11-10-2002 05:47 PM

Just cause people do it.. and just because you CAN do it..
doesn't make it a good thing :)

It's a personal thing with me.

I do believe you're right in that the written word is protected in ways that pictorial content is not however.

stanton 11-10-2002 08:10 PM

:eyecrazy ok so i guess it means it is good to have stories to read

Fatbrain 11-10-2002 08:20 PM

I add stories too my sites in addition to my pics as an added incentive...Sometimes I shoot content along with a good story to illustrate it...It can work if done right, but doubt it will make you a billionaire...It's mostly the imaginative types...But too many people don't have those anymore =(

marty 11-11-2002 01:35 AM

We handle all your paysite story requirements right here.

Check my sig for the best plugin stories :thumbsup

The Other Steve 11-11-2002 03:14 AM

Good stories do sell - pictorial stories sell even better.

However, if you want good stories you have to be prepared to pay for them. There are a lot of very so so story writers out there while the good story writers know they're good and know the value of their work.

BTW if you want to check on how good the writer of the story packs mentioned in my sig is - just ask Gramma - my writer produces some good quality work for her every month.

Backov 11-11-2002 04:07 AM

A site I used to surf years ago..

http://www.mrdouble.com

Used to be free, but he's gone pay now. Funnily enough he mentions on his join pages that his CC processor dropped him when he wouldn't remove all his questionable stuff (incest, pedo stories, etc).. And believe me, there's a lot of that shit on there.

I imagine if it was run by a clued webmaster it'd be making a mint, but probably be a big target with that pedo shit on there.

Cheers,
Backov

http://www.eroticstories.com is a pretty extensive site. All story based.

I know someone that writes if anyone is interested, I may be able to convince her to sell some of her work, or at least the rights to use it on a site for a reasonable price. She used to pretty good at writing in about any niche.

http://www.StoriesTraffic.com is a new webmaster program for stories sites. It has 4 general and 6 niche stories paysites to promote. We use the same backend as CashQuest/Hustler. $28 to $33 for a trial sale.

Right now, aside from the 4 general stories sites, there are BondageStories.com and GaySexStories.com. 4 other sites, LesbianStories.com, TeenStories.com, GroupSexStories.com and IRstories.com (interracial) are complete and should be added tomorrow or Wednesday.

I've been running erotic stories paysites since 1996, they convert very well...especially the niche stuff. But it's hard to send much traffic....

Overall it's a great thing to promote inside members areas or on free sites or exits from comparable niches. You don't waste many clicks. A person is either interested in gay sex stories or their not. :)

I would have to say that people do enjoy reading stories - especially ones suited to a particular niche. My site is largely story based - and a free site. Guess I still haven't figured out what to do with it to progress it further.

Our sites do well with stories. The biggest problem I see with stories on sites is that 80% of it is shit because webmasters think it's an after thought. Well written stories and articles that are designed properly do very well and keep members coming back.

It's a market like anything else it caters to a certain type of member. Stories with pictures and audio do very well but cost as much as video to produce.
