What is GFY to you?

For some people it's entertainment. For some it's business. For some it's a way to blow off steam and take out their aggression on others for no reason. For some it's a way to share ideas and thoughts. For some it's a way to question authority. For some it's a way of life. For some it's a job. And for some it's a way to keep up with industry drama.

What is GFY to you?

65% business, 35% entertainment. Pretty much.

I am here because GFY represents the webmasters, affiliates, and behind the scenes folks that I can network with in order to get better at promoting myself and converting. I am hoping that at some point this will happen. In the meantime, it's a place where I can see what's going on with other solo girls, the people who support them, the current technology used to push the sites/traffic/etc. The reason I'm here is for business and business alone...but it's like being in the ocean...no matter what you TRY to do, you are at the mercy of the endless swell of current change, bad weather, and of course the predators that lurk just below the surface....the only thing to do is hope you aren't above them when they decide to come up and feed...or become a predator yourself.:disgustxxx

For me, GFY has always being about finding the latest news, catching up on information on web publishing, and sharing info. The entertainment and business are mere, but highly welcome, byproducts of reading and contributing to GFY.

All of them. I wish I could discount the aggression one, but I can't.
I do sometimes go into long periods of only lurking for biz info and usually end up getting more work don't.

Definitely a place to use business as an excuse to waste time being a total asshole without feeling guilty about it. Only sometimes I do (feel guilty about it).

I do feel like it's a good place to get information, though, and see what other people's standards and expectations are with content, payouts, ethics, etc. In some ways all of the fucked up shit helps me clarify my own values and define what makes me and our business "special"/different than the stereotypes. It also provides inspiration for blogging and stuff.

And sometimes I see nice things happen on GFY and they feel *especially* nice/lovely because they're contrasted with so much toxic bullshit.

I come here for the cut and pasted Yahoo News threads.

Business 1: makes me lots of $ selling content and promoting my sites.

Fun 2: Sometimes there is really funny shit on here. :thumbsup

It's a mix of all, except for the business. I mean, some stuff is entertaining and interesting, but the biz aspect has become plain spam and the interesting stuff gets deleted right away.

Pretty much sums it up. A place to keep tabs on trends and issues that affect us all. A melting pot of mentalities - both good 'n bad.

Good thread Dean. It used to be everything you mentioned for me. Then I became sick of the drama and name calling. Constant drama is annoying. I just like to keep up to date on things. What is GFY to you Dean?

A: Like going to the zoo and seeing a bunch of monkeys trying to fuck a football or throw shit at each other.

It's both frustrating and amusing to watch at the same time.

There's some posts that are solid to read, but mainly, it's a bunch of people thinking they're special and acting like jackasses.

I use GFY mainly for business purposes but I do find a great amount of entertainment on the board and that's one thing that really I like about this place. People do business on GFY but they also hang loose and contribute towards the enterainment aspect of the board.

i like it here...its fun!
a lot of knowledgeable people you can ask any question here and %99 of the time you will get the answer you were looking in less then a few hours
also its funny...i sometimes literally roll on the floor from laughter...
i also learned shitloads of english here no kidding!

I get business from my sig. I like reading the drama threads...only if they are clever and entertainment. If I'm bored or can't sleep gfy and a few other boards are the perfect places to deposit some of my extra time.

i've been coming and going for over 5 years. i use gfy mostly to find out wtf is going on, why sales are up/down/sideways, or what the nubes are selling. i spend a month on gfy, get sick of the bs, and stay off it for awhile.
