It's always amusing to me that the best Hollywood movies are usually directed by Europeans or Australians.

Planet Bob 11-10-2002 06:31 AM

It's kickass movie :Graucho
I believe the DVD-version (the newest release) even contains 10-20 minutes that was removed from the initially release - the scene at some drugdealer where Matilda wackes some guy.

Jizar II 11-10-2002 06:33 AM

I agree! that movie is great:thumbsup

Pornwolf 11-10-2002 10:15 AM

That is one of my all time favorites! You are so lucky to be able to enjoy it for the first time!

Mortimer 11-10-2002 10:25 AM

Yeah,

a lot of french movies are really great, but the rest of them just plainly suck:1orglaugh

The professional is one of those good movies

In the last 10 years or so, France has started putting out movies that rival, equal, and sometimes exceed Hollywood in terms of technical production values. Other good movies to rent include Delicatessen and Island of Lost Children by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. He then directed Alien 4 for Hollywood (that's the one which, for some reason, never seems to rerun on TV). More French films to check out include The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita (on which the TV series was based, and which is considerably better than the one with Bridget Fonda, Point of No Return, and The Fifth Element by Luc Besson. (Even though The Fifth Element would seem to be a Hollywood movie spoken in English, it is almost entirely a French production.)

If a lot of French films suck, so do most Hollywood movies.

I couldn't agree more with your statement:thumbsup

All of those french movies really rock (well, except for Alien 4 which is a disgrace to the first 2 movies of the serie), and I agree that most american movies suck as well... The difference is that when a french movie sucks, it means that you spend two hours watching some guy and some girl in a coffee shop talking about their dogs and the way they like coffee, if you know what I mean:winkwink:
When an american movie suck, you at least get some special effects and some eye candy... But overall, with the ammount of american production every year, you are bound to at least get one or two good movies a year, which cannot be said about french movies.

At least that's my :2 cents:

That movie was just too weird for me, all of that sexual tension between a preteen girl and a grown man.

Disgusting

TDF 11-10-2002 11:07 AM

Leon rocked

FreeFastHost 11-10-2002 11:09 AM

That movie is old, but good.

sexyclicks 11-10-2002 11:11 AM

Check this French movie
It is sooooo funny. My gf is French so I see a lot of crap but a lot of very good movies too.
Also a movie called "The closet" is fucking hilarious!!!

Funny, I just watched "Beautiful Girls" and the same situation - tension between Natalie Portman and whatshisname.

Pornwolf 11-10-2002 11:27 AM

Natalie Portman was the Lolita posterchild for all of her prepubescent life!

Rocky 11-10-2002 11:31 AM

that was a great movie

i just watched Donnie Darko last night for the first time, not sure how that one slipped by considering i watch about 5- 10 movies a week

dapproid 11-10-2002 12:09 PM

the Bridget Fonda version of Nikita is not even comparable with Master Bessons' original version

AWESOME MOVIE

[Labret] 11-10-2002 02:33 PM

Leon was the fucking man.

jimmy3way 11-10-2002 02:46 PM

Luc Besson kicks much back.

Anybody who thinks that their is sexual tension in this movie is one disturbed individual, because it doesn't exist.

Yes, I guess that's why in the uncut version, they're lying in bed and decide not to have sex right at that moment. It was a love story between Matilda and Leon, and I'm sorry if that offends your little sensibilities.

Damn fine movie.

Cheers,
Backov

Aza 11-10-2002 02:58 PM

check out LEON
it is the european cut of the movie, which adds a bit more to the story!
