I hate mac!!!!

I'm currently ripping DVD's, editing HD footage for BluRay output, transferring 80 gigs off my internals to external backups for a client, posting on GFY and just finished watching "The Office" latest episode at NBC.com

... and this MAC has yet to take a speed hit.

So why do I hate MAC? Because I don't want to like it. I'm a PC guy.. but damn this shit is amazing.

FUCK MAC for changing my mind. :disgust

TurboAngel 12-05-2008 05:54 AM

Awwwww.

i used to think of myself as a pc or mac guy, but after hanging out with my blue collar uncles I realized they didnt differentiate between hammer brands, or which type of nails they used, what mattered was that the house was built or the roof was finished.

use mac and pc, get the job done, thats what matters.

Im a mac lover, and i have at least 4 pcs in the home...i am about to throw away an old blue imac that dont work LOL

I have a quad core PC with 2 gigs of ram, and 9 internal HD's. That was barely enough for HD. I thought that was the shit. It could play back HD in Vegas with little to no stutter. Of course once you add a filter you're screwed.

Now on an 8 core Mac with 4 gigs of RAM and 4 internal TB drives. HD plays back in real time with as many filters as I can throw at it practically.

Doing a lot on a PC doesn't mean shit if I can't do heavy rendering, transferring and ripping at the same time. All processes of which are heavy resource hogs.

A month or so ago I posted on here that I had well over 100 browser windows open. It's not about the quantity of applications, it's about the quality of the applications that are running.

So what you're really saying is a quad core with 2 gigs of ram isn't as good as a system with two intel quad cores that has twice the ram? Not to mention that PC might have an older lower clocked AMD CPU. The kind of quad core inside can make a huge difference.

I'm sure you're using something else on that mac to edit vids too, such as final cut pro. It could be that sony just sucks.

tranza 12-05-2008 06:56 AM

That sucks!!

HorseShit 12-05-2008 06:57 AM

No, what I'm saying is, I hate MAC. And yes Sony does suck. Don't even get me started on how stupid Sony is.

And why would I be using mac to edit videos, when I already told 3 times now that I hate MAC, I especially hate MAC's OS. But to be fair to mac, I never even really tried it. I'm still a hardcore Windows fan.

And yes a machine that's twice the size can handle damn near anything I throw at it. So far the MAC has been the only thing that can handle HD footage this easily.

It's no secret that I stopped shaving and wearing socks since I bought it.

And why would you think that you saying I was "considered gay" on a message board has any actual meaning to me in the real world.

Ok. I'm gay and I suck dicks and rape and kill women and kick dogs and I drown kittens.

Hmm.. doesn't seem to change a thing. Fuck, and I was really looking forward to being considered gay too. :disgust

Well if ya really hate mac that much for the same price as that mac you could get twice the power it has for a PC. A complete system with 16 cores, 16-32 gigs of ram, etc etc complete. Did you buy that mac or is it a friends? :helpme

Jay-Rock 12-05-2008 07:29 AM

There are PC video cards that will smoke any MAC on rendering. Problem is people dont want to invest a grand in a video car. PCS have WAY more options for upgrades. Lots of store bough PCs come with gaming cards with suck for video. Mac puts a decent card. You can still get a card that is 10 X faster for HD rendering. Mac comes configured thats why people prefer mac and there aren't many viruses that attack macs. Macs are perfect for the guy who is computer stupid and doesnt care to bother with researching hardware.
In my eyes would be take the same money and build 3 PCs that smoke any mac and not only are you faster but you can render 3 projects at once.

Lots of people just want it to work out of the box. If you want that in a PC get a Sony Vaio they are setup for HD video editing.

The only difference between Macs and a PC are the software/licenses and the way the case looks.

According to you Jay, I'm computer stupid. When in actuality I probably know more about computers than most on GFY. I've am certified by Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, Redhat and others. Worked in IT for over 10 years. But hey, I guess im stupid because I use a mac.

Your insight is amazing Jay.

People that believe Mac's have no advantages over PC's are the ones that think Ramen Noodles are a gourmet meal.

Vid, you should really consider upgrading. Your running CS2 in Rosetta because its only compiled for the older PowerPC chips. This is probably the root of your stability issues in CS2. Anothing thing you can try is trashing the Photoshop prefs.

I have been a MAC suer since 1994 and never looked back... the best reinforcment of this is that all those Microsoft ads used MACS to make the ads... what does that say...

Build yourself a PC with all the same parts Apple is using and load OSX onto it. It's entirely possible and not all that difficult to do. You can install a fully retail copy of OSX that will get all updates from Apple on identical hardware. There's a huge community of people putting OSX on just about any PC/Laptop out there.

Fuck around with it. See how it holds up. Then if you want to overpay for Apple hardware, go for it. I built one after buying one and it makes me sick that I paid what I did for the Apple box.

DirtyDanza 12-05-2008 04:56 PM

hah welcome to the real club now... final cut is next dood...

aico 12-05-2008 05:07 PM

No offense, but the people who say they can get an equivelent or better PC for the price of a Mac are clueless. ZDnet did a story on just that back in January, saying it's 1/3 the cost, then 2 weeks later did a story correcting themselves saying Mac is cheaper...

Well said FletchXXX!

We have 10 PCs and 3 MacBook Pros here all coexisting happily and getting the job done! The Macs are really amazing for Logic Studio which we use in our Recording Studio. The PCs are great for just about everything else primarily because we are used to using them.

Muti-tasking with the PC and Mac side by side is super efficient! :thumbsup

In English: you are using software that is 4 years old. It was written for PowerPC processors. You are now running an Intel processor. CS3 and CS4 will run natively on OSX, CS2 has to use a 'emulation' aspect of OSX called Rosetta.

I've heard that although Photoshop started on the Mac, it's the least stable version now. For the last 10 years, I can't remember the last time it crashed on my PC.

They screwed up the Mac code somewhere along the way. It might be those Intel processors....

diesel 12-10-2008 06:17 AM

Yeah, I hate my Mac's too. Specially the AirBook with solid-state drive. This shit runs like desktop and tiny as spam magazines I get in mailbox. Shame.

What bullshit.

Citation needed.

And why would the fact Macs now use the same chips as most windows boxes "screw up the code"?

Arguing about OSs or Consoles is fucking pointless, but if you are going to make some point, at least make sure you know what you are talking about. Your post is like saying 'Macs only have one mouse button!!!!!!'. ie Pointless and wrong.

I only paid about $3k for my MacPro. But the Hackintosh cost me $699 and runs circles around the Mac.

I love my Apple laptops and iMacs, but will never purchase another Apple desktop.
