Charged $30 to return defective Iphone

I got a new 3G Iphone about two weeks ago at the AT&T Store at a cost of about $300. The damn thing would drop calls, ring then go dead when you answered the phone and, sometimes, just ring once an quit.

When I bought the phone, the rep told me that if I didn't like the phone and returned it, I would have a $30 restocking charge.

Tonight, I took the phone back as defective. The clerk took one look at it and said, "I can tell this phone is bad within 30 seconds of picking it up." Then, he tells me he can't exchange it, only an Apple store can change out the phone. Then, he tells me that if I return the phone as defective, I still have to pay the $30 restocking fee.

I tried to explain that returning a "good" phone because I don't like it is different from returning a defective product that doesn't work. He just said Apple's policy is to charge the user $30 no matter what the reason.

I think it sucks. Apple gave me the old:321GFY

Deal with it, it's roughly $100 per month minimum to operate the iPhone, $30 is shitty but it's worth a working phone.

Just curious how he could tell it was defective.

Is the new phone so much better than the old one? I cant decide if I want to upgrade or not.

I would have figured a way out of it.

I probably could also, but you think $30 is worth the hassle?

no, some 8 dollar an hour retard trying to sound cool told you he had ESP and could tell your phone was bad. more times than not the software updates fix all problems. maybe i'm lucky, but my 3g is the best phone i've ever had, period. never a dropped call. never a problem. your first mistake was going to att. at an apple store you go get a new one no hassle. att can blow me. apple is cool.

abadfish 12-03-2008 12:58 AM

There is no way in hell I would pay $30 to return a defective product.

I wish I had an Apple store within a couple hours of me. I have heard so many good stories about Apple stores and horror stories with ATT.
