They were looking for any excuse to do it. He is a menace on the ice and he pisses off every single player in the league. The NHL knew that it was only a matter of time before someone absolutely FUCKED his shit up on or off the ice.

I can see why they did this. Sure there is freedom of speech, but he was at work making comments about other workers. If you worked at Intel and someone that worked in the company was now dating your ex and you said that they wouldn't just let it go.

the NHL is marketing themselves as "family entertainment" and I'm sure they don't appreciate this kind of thing. It is kind of like when the sports team suspends a guy who gets in trouble with the law. It has nothing to do with the team, but he is one of the public faces of that team and they don't like the reputation he is giving them by getting arrested.

Outside of Canada the NHL has no market because no one knows it exists. And now all anyone knows is this leauge is lame.

He doesn't mention specifics, but I think people who follow the league know what he is talking about.

You are correct about one thing for sure though. Outside of Canada, with the exception of a few cities, hockey is dead. In the US it is now on the VS network and half the cable companies out there don't even carry that channel and even if they get it you only get a couple of games a week. Back when it was on ESPN there was a game on almost every night on one of the ESPN channels.

Don't get me wrong. I think what he said is funny. I'm just saying that I can see why the suspended him. If the only publicity they can get is bad it doesn't help their dying game. This happens in all sports. If a player or coach in the NFL or NBA calls out the refs after a game they get fined or often suspended for a game. In MLB if you complain about the umpires the same can happen. Sports leagues tend to not be very happy when you start talking about other members of that league.

That said, Elisha Cuthbert is hot, I'll take those sloppy seconds any day :)

but he's suspended INDEFINATELY. Even Michael Vick will be let back into the NFL and he ran a Dog fighting ring and personally kill dozens of dogs and burried them inhis back yard. Some guy calls his ex a hockey whore( which she is, her current beau it at least the 3rd NHL player she's fucked ) and he gets an INDEFINATE suspension? Guys on the ice can beat the shit out of each other until they spill blood everywhere and they get 5 minutes in the penalty box. Something is out of whack.

Maybe the league is no fun but Avery is a disgrace to the sport. He's a circus act, not a hockey player.

There is an article saying he will meet with the commissioner before an actual suspension is set they are just saying indefinite for now. He will get a good talking to, get a few games and miss a few checks and told to bite his tongue then he will be back. I say he ends up with five games at the most.

Professional sports needs players like Avery. They keep things interesting. Who gives a fuck what he said it really was not that bad for fuck sake.
