Toon Webmasters: Hentai vs. "Heavy Metal"
 

What are your thoughts on which sell better [not in terms of absolute numbers but in conversion ratio] hentai aka x-rated anime or "Heavy Metal" type sex toons. Heavy Metal usually, not always, involves more realistic graphic portrayals of people and often, but not always, appear in comic book format.

Is there a "hentai burnout" in the toon niche you can detect?

Our adult comics and adult toons sites (2 different niches!) convert much better than our hentai site.

I kinda suspected that those would convert better since there's not as much of this type of toon content as opposed to Hentai.
I guess another issue to consider is retention rate.

As for the hentai, I really couldn?t tell what would be the reason to like it or not, I can only guess. I know adult comics market much better. It?s huge and there?s surprisingly large number of passionate collectors ready to signup with a site just to grabbing a few new comics. We receive emails from them, they?re asking about the date when next episode of some of our exclusive series will appear so they can login to read it (while in the meanwhile they don?t cancel their membership).

My business has been growing every year simply because we offer toons that people can relate to. The super hero type don't do all that well for the reason people can't picture themself as wonder wart hog dooer of all that is right! Now offer them a cartoon that the poor SOB can't get LAID by every BABE that walks by, most people can understand THAT. My suggestion is try something that the regular guy and gal can relate to.

The problem with the hentai side as I see it is that the content is mostly stolen - and the surfers know this. Therefore paysites are identified as thieves almost universally.

From what I know, japanese manga and anime is immensely more popular than western style cartoons/comics but you have to offer the surfers something they can't find through their own fan network.

Which is pretty hard :)

MMG anime is offering some good stuff, and uh... so am I :)

So offering exclusive hentai content would give an edge? Also, ongoing story series?

I kinda like this kind.

"Heavy Metal" Space fantasy toons. Those are great for one time sets, setting up a comics series, on the other hand, is a bit tough cuz its very labor and writing intensive. Kinda like running a TV series pilot.

Wouldn't it depend on your traffic?
Send English people to the Heavy Metal pics, and asian traffic to the Hentai.

Actually, from my lists and email polls, most of the people on my lists that buy hentai are asian-AMERICAN, significant number of Anglos too. But your suggestion maybe right on re segregating the two lists and recruiting accordingly.

Does Fantasy/Science Fiction comic style do very well, or does real life based convert better?

As far as I know that site is left there to die, no updates etc. But maybe things changed (or will change) in the meanwhile, who knows...

Real-life based ones, common male fantasies - sex with teachers, secretaries, female bosses... :-)

I wonder how this compares to HENTAI in terms of retention?
