I honestly can't believe I'm asking this here but...
I'm thinking about a MAC notebook.
*gasp* Which one of their machines can handle, and I mean honestly handle, video rendering. Rendering at a decent speed and not something that has to be done overnight while I sleep like my PC laptop does. Everyone is free to do a mercy kill on me at any time. I don't even want to know it's coming. Just end my life please. From behind is best, blow my face off so it will be a closed casket. My mother does not deserve to see my face after I've become a traitor. |
Good news is the sound of your recycled plastic gators will help disguise the noise and your patchouli cologne will kill the scent of whomever is sneaking up behind you.
You do realize soon now you will develop feelings and stuff. Next thing you know you will want sustainable and fair trade hookers only. |
Save yourself some money. Repeatedly slam the tip of your cock in a gun safe door. Less painful. :2 cents:

i dont know why anyone would go from pc to mac..
i tried it once and really wanted to like it, but i couldnt stand the gui and didnt feel like spending the time to get comfortable with it... |

anyone who actually still fights about mac and pc usefulness is just a recycled catch phrase tool sheep
both are equally as good as each other and when one gets better the other follows shortly after why not just go all out and grab one of these? http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ I am wanting to put osx on one of my pc laptops, that would be fun :) |

i wonder the speed difference, if you spent 2800 on a pc laptop.
|
a smart guy once said... I'm not rich enough to buy cheap shit.
buy the top rated pc/laptop and use it for years. |
What a bunch of morons on this board.
Go mac, you'll be happy. I'll NEVER go back to a PC, so fucking cumbersome. All these morons tried one for a few seconds and made their decision. Buy one, FORCE yourself to get used to it, and then come back and tell us what you think. The first few days I wanted to shoot myself, but now, I can't even imagine using a slow, insecure piece of windows garbage PC.:thumbsup:thumbsup |
buy a macbook pro, 15 or 17in .. out of all the companies in SE asia, apple definately has the best support and hardware fixes. should be a bunch of apple stores or retailers in thailand no?

The mac ran better and more stable, You guys gotta realize you can't compare specs on the 2 machines. it's the OS that's more efficient. You can have the same spec'd computer the speed difference because of Mac OSX is incredible. Photoshop starts faster and runs 10 times more efficiently, you can run every damn program on your computer and it won't jam.. not that they don't crash, They certainly do, but VERY rarely. 2 years ago I was one of you guys, an ignorant windows using mac hater. |

i will agree that the mac os is a better from an architecture standpoint.. |

I've read your BS story.. you used it for a day and possibly had a faulty machine ( yes they exist ) I have a feeling you masterbate to vista's packaging. I get sick of reading your mac hate, cause you can tell your brains just too small to grasp something that's new :1orglaugh |
I don't care guys, if you hate mac then it's your loss.
If you'd rather use overspec'd machines just to run a bloated crappy OS it's your choice I'm not a blind mac fan boy, I see it's flaws, but comparing windows to mac osx is like comparing a hyundai to a mercedes, sorry. |
I don't think there will be a huge difference in rendering times between a high end mac and a high end PC.
Macs are great computers, but don't expect a huge difference or you will be disappointed a little bit. |

I'm getting a 15in macbook pro for myself this xmas. It's my first mac since an Apple II :1orglaugh

DWB,
Ignore Sticky, he is obviously pro windows with zero background with the mac. I have a 15" Macbook Pro 2.4ghz and it's just as powerful as any desktop machine I've ever owned. The only step up from that would be a Mac Pro, but you said notebook :) You should be able to render just fine with a Macbook Pro... Goodluck! :thumbsup:thumbsup |

However the programs that run on it hog resources, bring the entire OS to a grinding halt the minute you're really pushing the limits. The only time my mac chugs, is when I start up XP, or Vista in parallels .. and that's only while windows is booting up, once running then it's fine. I can be rendering a very complex 3d file and still boot up photoshop at normal speeds, where as with XP if I render the SAME file, Photoshop will take 2 or 3 times as long to boot.. It's little stuff like this that makes a mac a dream to use. I've found little annoyances, but nothing like the frustration I was constantly going through as XP user. Dirty you're obviously considering it based on all the good things you've heard from Mac users, so why let a bunch of Windows users change your mind :2 cents::2 cents: |

Ill admit that is quite similar to what I did with my laptop sitting here. Almost a year later running vista and it has never crashed, and I pushed the power button and it turned on. I just edited 120 mins of video on it since I was away from home all week. Wish I had used a mac though. :( Damn this thread is getting boring, I think Ill go get my barb wire hooked to my nutsack again. Wee around and around I go Weee~~ |
Just get a better PC laptop and port the software you already have.
There are only two types of people who will pitch you to get a mac: designers, who are a sketchy bunch to begin with, and mac buyers who don't want to be the only ones feeling like suckers conforming to, and shelling out for, Apple's amazing marketing machine. I'm not saying those are the only types of people who use a mac - I've met plenty of respectable people using them, and none of the latter have "pitched" me to get a mac. Only the two types I described above. |

So a Mac Book Pro is the bad ass in the portable MAC family?

My Dell laptop is rather old now, but I used to render vids on it just fine before I had so many desktops. I have nothing against Macs except if you already have multiple pcs doing multiple things, it just doesn't make sense to go willy nilly and buy one mac laptop or desktop while your other three or four other computers are pcs. Not to mention now you need new software too. So you have to be real motivated and want to make a financial commitment to switch for whatever perceived benefit you think you can get. Instead of buying a Mac DWB, why not just solve your original problem and find a good pc laptop that can render your videos? Then you don't have to switch to a new hardware platform or get new software.

I have 2 macs and 3 pc's
I like them both and both are equally as fast as each other due to the specs, not the OS don't listen to fanboys, they love and hate everything at the same time depending on what you love or hate |
I have 3 Macs (2 Mac Book Pro's 17 inch, and a G5) and and 12 PC's (mostly Quadcores and 2 Laptops).
I like both of them, and enjoy the MAC for anything to do with Music or Media, and invariably the software exceeds my expectations. I am sure you can get great results for Rendering Video on your pc with the right hardware/software combo too. Good luck with it! :thumbsup |
macs the shit
|
Mac's are great!

Any laptop is going to be a compromise between speed and power usage. If video rendering is really important, buy a desktop.
|
I have very little MAC experience, although I did get to play with some of the first mac computers on the market.
|
honestly save yourself money buy two PC laptops and use Vegas network render across them both, faster and cheaper...no shit
|
back to video rendering...
I've greatly speeded up my video rendering by killing explorer before starting.
Just ctrl-alt-del after you open your rendering prog and end task on explorer. Has greatly speeded up all video work on my vista laptop. |
You could likely get a faster PC laptop for the money but if you go Apple on the laptop it's a good time to buy the Mac Book Pro because they just released the newest model.
If you need serious rendering go with a Mac Pro because they are 8 core machines (dual quads). |
Macs are overpriced computers for people who have given up on researching the hardware they should be buying.
intel CPU + crappy unix variant = mac |
