Fresh install of Windows XP - Best Anti Virus?

I'm about to format this machine & reinstall windows xp... what is the best anti virus software to install on it?

Norton seems to have dropped the ball tons of times, lookin for something new.

RazorSharpe 11-26-2008 05:33 PM

Kaspersky - it's THE best AV I have ever used bar none.

Big John 11-26-2008 05:33 PM

Never had a machine I've installed AVG on for people catch a virus and best of all....it's free.

Yoni 11-26-2008 05:44 PM

I used to have this russian girl editing for me.. She was smart as a whip and always poking around my networked pc and would get through norton. I heard her mention kaspersky and i bought it, she couldnt get through after that, and the fact that I canned her too, but yea, it works awesome.

Nod sucks.. seriously. Dont let micro center trick you into thinking its good. I can get through nod and I know jack shit. Nod is good if you are a gamer and you want an antivirus scanning at all times because it uses less recourses, but thats about it. Kaspersky is designed inherently better.

(im not ripping your opinion) i want you to know that.
Cheers,
Duke

AVG (free/paid) got my vote.
2nd choice would be Avira Antivir.

Mutt 11-27-2008 12:59 AM

i use AVG - free version - and meanwhile i've had two bouts with spyware lately - it never alerted me to anything.

qwe 11-27-2008 01:03 AM

kaspersky ftw

Same. I use avg all the time. Since their latest main update, it looks a lot better / easier to use too

plugin 11-27-2008 01:34 AM

Kaspersky is the best solution

hornycult 11-27-2008 01:36 AM

Eset NOD32 is rather good for me,
i have bad experience with Kaspersky (different versions) - slowing down computers.

I'm using Antiviruses in my office only (10 -15 computers)

Antonio 11-27-2008 01:37 AM

AVG free and:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

I use kaspersky(KIS 2009 to be more exact) and I love it. Been using it for 3-4 years now. Pretty cheap too.

Redrob 11-27-2008 01:52 AM

I've been happy with Symantec Enterprise Edition. I like the daily auto updating.

blonda80 11-27-2008 02:02 AM

Kaspersky

tranza 11-27-2008 08:35 AM

Avast or avg!

crockett 11-27-2008 08:37 AM

NOD 32.. it's updated daily and is barely noticeable as far as system preformance goes.

DutchTeenCash 11-27-2008 08:39 AM

bitdefender for sure

Evil Chris 11-27-2008 08:42 AM
