need help MOVIE!
 

Hey guys and gals here is the problem.... I have around 14gigs worth of home movies about 11gigs is what ishot myself. They are allready in my members area. ARGH there a bitch to view and a few of my members have requested I not chop them up but rather then load the WHOLE movie! One of my members that would like to see this is using aol and only on dail up.

Ok Sundays are my MAIN updates Iwould like to have this completed by then as well. First What program is out there for DUMMIES that will do most the work for you? Is there a program I can use for Linux?


NOW What is the BEST Format? wmv mpg 1 or 2 avi's etc....

PLEASE help my members are the most important thing I have and dont want to start losing any so far my reteintion IS AWESOME... If somone would like to help with this project let me know and we will work out a deal of some sort. if not CAN SOMEONE PLEase explain this to me asap.

Trying to wrap my head around exactly what you need here, Tom.

You seem to already have 14 gigs of material in place that is retaining well. Some of your members have expressed dissatisfaction with the presentation of the content. You've taken these complaints to heart and want to change everything, in three day's time but you're uncertain what format to change your content to and you aren't familiar with the programs or batch processes that would be needed to do this. Right?

Well, granting that it may well be possible to please everyone at the same time, I'd have to consider the content's current format. If it's already compressed MPEG's, it probably would be best to leave it alone- further work on the files will only degrade them, perhaps unacceptably so.

I might also point out that the time constraint seems a bit unrealistic for manipulating, re-rendering and replacing 14 gigs of material, and that's not even considering the changes that'll be needed in the html pages used to access it.

Anyway: What format is the content you'll be working? And am I correct in hearing that you want to take short video clips and join them into longer ones?

As far as final content offerings, my experience has been offering both MPG and WMV files has resulted in the fewest complaints.

Stick with plain old mpeg-1, fuck DIVX, a LOT of people can't view them unless they download the codec, and not many surfers feel safe installing something that is linked from a porn site.

Hey thanks for ya input 1st No I dont want to join the movies I have the full lenght on my hard drive but there over 300 mgs easy If you look at my tour page on www.virginiaamateurs.net and on the tour I give 4 vids away free use a java script and tehy seem to be the most happiest with this. I just started using the java a few months ago so The other movies are either click the thumb to view the movie or download the movie. I just want something faster then I have now. 3 days is not that far off I could do it I THINK.. I work from aroudn 6am till 12am m-s so I have the time to do it... Let me ask this... would it just be better to use the java or is there anything else I could get to make it faster for my members to watch? Thank you

I don't see how java would affect download times at all, other than (possibly???) cutting out the time to bring up a full instantiation of the player.

Your video files look great and don't seem too fat. I doubt you could compress them any more than they are and still retain the quality.


Dial ups will always complain about how they hate download times. Whenever I hear that, I simply politely tell them that I'd prefer to offer the best quality possible, which is, admittedly, more suited for broadband users. The low bandwidth rates for video only works for small talking heads IMO, and shouldn't be considered an option in a members' area.
