Montreal?

Just out of morbid curiousity, how many of you are in Montreal Quebec?

And for those of you that are, are there any other art stores asides Omar DeSalle on St. Catherine Streett? (By the 100 block of either E or O?)

I'm going paper-art-stuff shopping today if the hubby remembers, and I want to go to the best place.

Manny The Freak 11-08-2002 09:42 AM

I am in Montreal now. Yes there bureau en gros in the downtown area you would have to look them up there is even a futureshop on St. Catherine west you can buy paper products there as well.

becca 11-08-2002 09:45 AM

we got a B en gros near me in Anjou, already hit that.. they didn't have the right kinda paper or boos. (Looking for a real heavy duty art paper... x.x)

I've been into futureshop once... it freaked me out. the whole "give up your coats/bags" deal was just.. nasty.

Do Montreal webmasters get together any? (I'm bored with no social life?)

Manny: Which store and which coffee shop? I'll bring the husband along since he has the *cash* (*evil cackle*)

Nothing could happen until the hubby got off work anyway, soo... you keep in touch too. If you got aim, I'm avaliable on the nick LeKaylea.

And if you turn out to be an axe murderer.. well.. I'll wear myu high heeled boots. (They'll keep my feet dry i nthis stupid weather too!)

And speaking of coffee.. where are the good specialty shops? Second Cup and Timmy's *don't* count :thumbsup

McAttack 11-08-2002 10:14 AM

Becca

For art supplies, I find Omer fairly high priced. I can sometimes get better deals at Art Tech (I think that's the name) It's on Sherbrooke/Parc Can't miss it. Good staff too.

As for coffee places, they're EVERYWHERE! I kinda like Starbucks coffee myself, but I like a lot of the smaller places. Near my office in Montreal North, we have Cafe Milanos which if you've been in MTL for more than 2 years, you've most likely heard of it (famous for it's sandwiches)

There are some get togethers, nothing specific really. But check this place out, you'll see a LOT of webmasters from MTL. We should meet up some day. I'm waiting for my associate to get back to town, he's on a business trip for a few more weeks.

becca 11-08-2002 10:18 AM

I was worried about Omar's being overpriced... thus for Staples and its counterpart B. en gros came up... I'm just curious how much a ream of good heavy paper would be.

Just a matter of finding the right place I suppose.

What I really need to do is find a friend or two who don't mind sitting still for about 10 to 15 minutes at a time so I can practice drawing REAL people. Photographs are nice, but I can't ask the photograph to move. Siiiiggh! The horrors!

I actually like second cup a lot.. NICE specialty teas there.

I just want to find a good cafe to draw in occassionally.. Nice atmosphere, won't kill my bank completely and not as busy as the big name s. cup/timmys locations.

Hmm. Maybe we could get all the MTL'ers together.. that would be SO nice.. I just don't know anybody around me except my husband who speaks english, so, I stay in the apartment all day doing nothing but wither away from bordom.

Okay, I'm done my whining and angsty behavior :)

Fletch XXX 11-08-2002 10:18 AM

Becca are you a webmaster/webmistress?

becca 11-08-2002 10:24 AM

Fletch: Not really. I'm an artist who sometimes dabbles in webdesign. I've designed a site or two, but I wouldn't call myself a full fledged webmaster/mistress. It would be nice to be, but I'm taking one thing at a time... erotic art is gonna be my first step. (Thusfor the onslaught of wquestions about supplies and crap)

My hubby works in the industry as a programmer/creature thing, but I'm just the wife thats interested in the topic.

Unless a healthy libido demon and an interest in *real* people isn't the proper thing to have at this board. (I'm not going to open a porn site right away just so I can be called a webmaster/creature thing anyway.)

One thing at a time. . . so, yeah. If I wasn't so bloody shy and stuff I'd even consider modeling, but I don't think I got the looks or the ability to overcome my horror of cameras. :thumbsup

We get together a few times a week. We start out at some strip club and end up pulling a foot solider on St. Catherine. There is of course a lot of drinking going on. Strippers , Prostitutes and alcohol is a great business environment.

Call me if you want to meet up next time 1-514-841-2650

( What gave you the idea that Manny the Freak was an axe murderer ? )

becca 11-08-2002 10:39 AM

LOL, I always crack a joke about meeting axe murderers online. My mothers doings, you see.

My husband is "a grade a complete asshole, axe murdering children raping freak." - That was pretty much a direct quote from my mother dear, before my hubby came down from Canada to see me.

That was before we got married of course, and our first meeting. I am usually a bit too trusting, and hes got PAPER. So that makes him A-ok.

My mother would have a heartattack if she read this. :1orglaugh

Whens the next get together? I'll give ya a call thenIf we have the extra cash to spend on a night on the town, we'll see if we can come. (I'd love it, at anyrate. I don't get out very often and its just with the hubby at this point.)

I really do wish I could scan this sketch in this notebook. It lokos *good*.

Bugger.

Raise you hand if you own a umax scanner. Then give me your address, phone number and house keys. :thumbsup

becca 11-08-2002 11:14 AM

Oh, dugmor, by the way, if I manage to call that number, who should I ask for?

McAttack 11-08-2002 11:43 AM

Becca,

Without giving too much info, where do you live around? THere are great places to go and a lot of artist cafes that leave you be to draw and stuff, especially on the plateau, the mile-end, and downtown of course.

Where are you from and how long have you been in Montreal?

Fletch XXX 11-08-2002 11:44 AM

Another american moved to canada?

has to be,.

becca 11-08-2002 11:49 AM

Okay, a little about myself, then.

Currently I'm in Anjou. Thats on one of the shores - on island.. right near Honore Beaugrand Metro station.

I even have a metro pass to get downtown tonight. (Thusfor BIG interest in paper)

I left the USA last year in September.. right after I got engaged to my sweetheart. We had our first child a few months later.

Everyone, this is Mr. Moose. Hes an all-canadian moose and our only kid. He was birthed by the Bear Lane company.

If we ever get around to having a will, hes goin in it, most definitely. :)

But anyway, I've been around for over a year now, and I don't know anyone. Its really frustrating to be honest. Thats why I love this board so much. I KNOW there are people from MTL using it, so I don't feel so alien.

I've been told numerous times I'm suffering from culture shock.. well culture shock fuck them too. I just want to get to know people, I like talkin' to people.. and well, thisis the only niche of english speakers I've really found so far. (So thanks, fellas!)

Asides that, my husband works on St. Catherines street, right near Omar DeSalle... somewhere around the 200 block.. Ouest I believe. Not sure.. but if its Est it doesn't matter because its only a coupla of blocks down anyway. Right near Berri Uqam actually.

So, I hope that helps some. :) I'm being ditzy, I haven't had sugar today, so I'm just getting a fix... I'll be okay in ten minuts. REALLY.

:thumbsup

becca 11-08-2002 11:51 AM

Yes, I'm another one of those fuckin' unpatriotic americans that left the country.

:feels-hot

I really want to deck the next person who really starts getting on my case about that. This bitch I know from an artist channel did nothing but berate me for moving. I just about told her to go fuck herself and her country too, and that I was perfectly happy in Canada with my hubby.

Bah! Okay, enough of that rant. Sore subject.

HAHAH! That's funny. I don't think there's anything unpatriotic about leaving one's country. I love my country, doesn't stop me from wanting to move to the UK for a bit and try it out.

As for making friends in this city, well I gues it really depends. In Anjou, it's bit far from the action and all that. The area where your husband works is very francophone, so yeah you would have a hard time to meet anyone there. For artists... hmmmm.... I know a few places, but they're kind of a pain to get to. On St-Viateur near St-Laurent, there's a few artsy cafes where in the summer time, you hear a lot of people in the indipendant film industry and artists talk about their projects and stuff.

The Quartier Latin (around where Dugmor's office is) is a great place for pubbing. To sit down and have a beer with someone and meet other people, it's great.

There's alwys the mountain too. Take a walk with your kid there, and you're bound to meet people.

Sometimes you just need that one connection. I have a friend that came here from the UK, lived here for 3 months and never met anybody. Started to work in my company and all of a sudden BOOM, he and his girlfriend want to move here permanently cause they love it.

NetRodent 11-08-2002 03:45 PM

My wife and I are so unpatriotic, we moved to Motreal and we don't even vote.

Jimbo 11-08-2002 03:46 PM

I'm in montreal, quebec
