Best dedicated hosting these days?

Yep, there have been other threads on the subject. times change. The economy has changed and some companies may have taken a hit.

So whats the best bang for the buck for manged dedicated hosting? Of most significance is qualified support especially in the area of security. Next comes speed! A Lot of variables affect speed (server, memory... and net connectivity). So I'm really looking for more than a simple one line answer.

Has anyone seen a decline in support ability, response time etc. from any of the hosting providers? Any improvements?

All comments appreciated.

I use Techie Media and Host Head and love them both - fast, perfect support, always there when I need them.

Avoid OC3 like the fucking plugue - for all reasons of decline

Haven't dealt with RightHosting but would certainly check them out

Sly 11-21-2008 01:47 PM

I always recommend Phat Servers, for good reason...

ThumbLord 11-21-2008 01:48 PM

MovieMaster 11-21-2008 02:35 PM

Good peeps below

pussyluver 11-21-2008 04:14 PM

Phatservers looks interesting. Any comments?

I'd like to ask if anyone ever left 'em and why? You'd really have to be pissed to slam someone on a public board...... But I could take info via ICQ. Not interested in hearing from hosting sales reps.

Not a slam on them, not with 'em. They may be a good choice....

The Duck 11-21-2008 04:23 PM

Webair for years with little issues.

I've been spoiled by National Net. I've been working with them for nearly six or seven years and they are so quick. These days I'm doing a lot of consulting and I have access to dozens of servers at different companies. I'm tired of putting in a work order because I physically can't see a server via HTTP and waiting an hour for a response. With National Net it's instant.

National Net rocks.

No offense, but I can tell you from experience that support and speed does vary from host to host. So does up time. An hour of down time may not seem like a long time in the whole scheme of things, but what it does to traffic and trades can be amazing. For example my trade script on several TGPs auto suspends a trade for no traffic in an hour.

If you can't get a problem resolved for couple of days what ever the reason, it is can destroy conversions. For example the recent ComusThumbs hack. CT had a solution. What if your host blocked the upgrade to a fix?

They used to have a top reputation but a month or 2 ago they had that 8+ hour downtime, so that and their above average pricing kinda puts a dent into their old quality reputation.:2 cents::2 cents:

Tha statement is retarded. Quality of bandwidth, support, network uptime and a ton of other factors makes the difference. Hosts are not all the same by any means, that is just a stupid comment.:2 cents:

Mate with every host an occasional hicup may happen, especially if in the end the original issue was caused by some 3rd party script or something like that.

I happen to host now with Techiemedia and for the most part these mofos are fantastic and 2 steps above the rest. But even with these guys who are the best a very occasional hicup may happen as they arte human. But in the rnd they still blow doors off the other 3 hosts I've been with and all of those are well known, in fact all were mentioned in this thread, but i won't name names.:2 cents::2 cents:

Coming from you (a respected old school guy) that means a lot. I also have been with many of the well known hosts, but moved to techiemedia a few years ago and they have proven time and time again to be the Top. I consider them to be the cream of the crop in the hosting biz. I don't think i could ever leave the techie family, I love Jim and his crew.:thumbsup

Bullshit. They are not same ofcourse but very similar in mosts cases. As i said before there cant be best hosting beacuse you will never know what can happen. For example tornado can hit datacenter and sudenly your perfect hosting will become crap.
