I wonder how the Canadian $$ jump is affecting CCBill porn sales?
I'm looking at a join form for a solo model site here, and it's asking $32.66 USD, if I click on the US flag.. But since I'm Canadian the first thing I see is $42.92 CAD..
After our dollar hit par (I understand it's $0.82 today) subconsciously that still affects us I think. Seeing $42.92 sends stick shock through me, whereas if I was just presented with the $32.66 USD I'd probably just think about normal, whatever, and deal with the dollar difference when I get my credit bill. Don't we want to delay buyers remorse feelings until *after* we've made a sale? :) Thoughts? |
that's the way i'd react but people keep saying that CCBILL's regional billing didn't hurt their sales when the American dollar was down.

Canadians are used to paying US for porn sites... it's not as bad as it was before... Even when the dollar was higher than the us they were getting sub-par exchange rates on their credit cards.

I'm wondering how regional pricing will work now that all the other currencies have dropped in relation to the US dollar. It made sense then, but does it still make sense now? The GBP, Euro, they've all taken a beating too. It would be nice to hear from CCBill about how foreign sales have been, but I won't hold my breath!
Lady I agree, we're used to paying the premium.. But if you SHOW me the premium first thing before I even type my name into the signup form, I think I'd be much less likely to join. Sticker shock, plain and simple.. I think it's crazy to not be showing Canadian customers the US dollar price atm. Case in point.. If you asked anybody on the street of Toronto today if they'd rather pay $32 USD or $42 CAD.. They will say $32 USD, invariably. Also, as usual, the CAD value CCBill offers is nowhere close to the USD value, at current market rates. There's a solid 3-5% extra built in, that as I understand is still completely unaccounted for. No idea who gets that extra money. Which has been a big question for me with this regional pricing the whole time. |
porn is a sin

When the dollar hit par, we switched from chargin' USD on all our sites to Cdn. funds.
Last month we changed back. Better the exchange in my pocket than someone else's. |
I like the CDN dollar being a little lower, makes for better returns on the money I send home! Gotta love the CDN buck at low!

The CDN dollar being low provides a huge increase to our bottom line. With the exception of marketing cost the rest of our expenses are all in CDN dollars.

Looking a little more promising eh ;)

To be clear, as a Canadian webmaster, I can only hope the dollar goes down. But that's not what my post is about. I'm just wondering how sales of porn to Canadian customers are being affected by showing them a significantly higher price in canadian dollars, when for years they were used to seeing $29.95 instead of $40. Even if they're equal at market rates, it is still scaring off consumers I'd imagine.
