internet video ramble (long)

yup, it's a huge post - but i found it kind of amusing:

Shooting Internet Content

I see the money trail of some of the bigger Internet companies out there and see that it is a cash windfall.* If done properly, Porn and the Internet mixes brilliantly.* It has ever since the beginning of the Internet.

There was a point years ago when everybody was on 2600 baud Prodigy and AOL lines where people would literally wait up to 8 hours to download a 10 second sex clip.* The strain that sex sites put on a nascent Internet was overwhelming as surfers clamored to nab bandwidth intensive pictures and video files.* Why was the Internet so perfect for a medium like sex?* Isn't it clear?* It's private, it's anonymous, it's personal.

I'd wouldn't be the first person to say that pornography was one of the primary reasons which drove the major technological innovation.* The VCR completely overwhelmed X-rated theatres and peep shows.* And 900 numbers sprang from the depths of hell. And as worldwide and domestic demand for porn on the net grew exponentially, servers had to adjust by upgrading with the latest Sun Microsystem product, routers had to upgrade with the latest products from Cisco and 3Com, advances in streaming media, video encoding, and live shows were blossoming, and, dare I say, more and more people were upgrading to high speed access primarily for faster porn access.* Huge hosting companies were beginning to develop in order to handle porn consumer's insatiable demands and bandwidth providers like UUNET and AT&T were increasingly relying on porn to maintain their wealth.* Is there no doubt?

Porn is literally the only thing on the Internet that churns out heavy doses of profit.* That's not saying much because 99% of porn companies either do not make money or lose money.* But if done properly and marketed well, the potential for huge wealth is realizable.*

Everything comes from a learning curve.* And that's why I'm beginning to shoot content.* I'm my own webmaster so the only webmaster horror story I'll ever hear is about what a complete moron I am.* I just ordered video cameras and still cameras which should be arriving in the next couple of days.* From here on out, it's all about the money honey.* You have to adapt to the situations that develop.

From the beginning of the Net, it was all Cybererotica, Karasxxx.* They were the pioneers.* They had these flashing, cookie cutter front pages with all their supposed 100,000 pictures, 250,000 videos, 10,000 live shows.** They didn't develop their content.* They just bought the same generic stuff available on CD-roms.* The cookie cutter sites (and I'm not talking about Cybererotica or Karas) used affiliate programs, dialers to Mongolia, they shaved off of webmasters, they redirected charges, they paid per click, used mass spam techniques, and an endless array of banner pop ups. Then smaller, more personal sites like Busty Amateurs and Sweet Loads started out, nailing the net with more personal, more niche-audience oriented content and proved higher profitability and greater retention rates.* The latest phenomenon has been the Oxcash and Nasty Dollars group which really took home grown content with personality and unbelievably simple designs to another level.* Utilizing every marketing trick in the book, TGPs, affiliate programs, jamming up the binary groups, and hitting the P2P group, their thumbnails were huge, their front pages grabbed your attention without all the flashing graphics and bullshit FLASH over all the other sites, and by remaining simple and true to the customers, they were able to grab the biggest chunk of cash yet seen on the Internet in the shortest period of time by networking their sites.* Yeah, it may all be fake, the girls all sign model releases, but can't we all just fantasize once in a while?

I know I'm rambling and going on and on.* It's late.* What I'm trying to express, and I may be wrong, is that to shoot content in Porn Valley, you have to know the mechanisms which drive Porn Valley and it's a learning curve which ceases to amaze me.* And Porn Valley is not all about DVDs and VHS sales.* Pretty soon, it's going to have to give a proper respect to those Internet shooters out here who are seeing higher profits with less staff and less bullshit.* Unlike porn which is nearly impossible to flunk out of, you really think they would ever deal with some of these people in porn who scam companies and get fired and hired on a regular basis like so many nickels and dimes in my pocket?* On the Internet, word of these idiots travel like wildfire and is akin to the death penalty, because unlike Porn Valley, the real people behind the Internet can monetize everything they do and see where the profits lie.
