I was running a very small forum for the adult industry all clean and no images the forum was all about business only and very little traffic with 80 members.

I have just received the below from HostMonster this morning with no warning and I have lost my business and all members details...
If I had a warning there were issues I would have backed up my members and moved host.

So gutted been trying to build up the site for a full year now.

Grab your data and spend the $2 somewhere else.

C'mon, give the guy a break, sur it's not the best ideat to go with a $5 VPS Host, but that also doesn't mean that it's ok for them to do whatever they want.

Have you contacted them for your data, maybe they've made a backup

Iron Fist 11-19-2008 06:37 AM

Although they have the best hosting when no one is using anything, we can't promote 99.999 uptime when your actually trying to do something!

sexandcash 11-19-2008 07:15 AM

Bummer... you should totally get a real host...

I agree. Go with the most reliable companies when it comes to hosting & domains.

Machete_ 11-19-2008 07:35 AM

I love it when people try and pass themselves off as Internet Marketing Geniuses, but host on a $5 Virtual, dont have any backup, and dont understand the email your host send you.

pathetic......

No breaks. He should consider himself lucky nothing worse has happened. I used to host with Dreamhost, and Servage, that was back in the day when I was fucking around and seeing what I could do, I wasn't very serious and could fold shop tommorow if I needed to, that was then, this is now.

When I saw my traffic keep growing and letters coming stating they couldn't handle the loads I was putting out, I shopped around and considered my options carefully, this was getting to be serious business and my bandwidth needs outgrew most virtual options.

The very first thing I did was park my ass over at whois.sc (domaintools.com now) and start looking up various big name domains and see who they host through. I checked a few out and stuck with my current host and have NEVER been happier. I honestly can't tell you that i've lost a minute of sleep ever wondering if my sites are online or not, it's that good.

Anyways, I know the frustration of an incompetent host, on the other hand, he might be at the crossroads I was at years ago, and might need to make a decision going forward.

Good luck! :2 cents:

maybe he had $5 virtual accounts with 50 hosts and used them as backlinks to sell his shit in the search engines.. or is that too far of a stretch?

Agent 488 11-19-2008 09:15 AM

I would think that someone into SEO since when? Fuck I gotta go look because the number in my head seems outrageous...

Wow... 1994...

OK.. Doing SEO for longer than Wired Guy and you don't have a few dedicated boxes lying around to put your forum on? What the fuck?

I was into affiliate marketing for about 1 year before I got my first dedicated box out of frustration from the shitty service virtual hosting gets... 14 years and you still use VH? WTF?

Get real man!
