starting a forum - what software???
Ok, I'll be adding a forum to my computer help mainstream site. What is the best software out there (FREE is good but paid no problem either)? The site's on a virtual host.
Plus any ideas on how to bring people to that forum??? I'm already using Yahoo answers + wrote a few articles so far.. Any other ideas, advises, bumps on the road I should be on the lookout for? mainstream is quite new for me although the site is more than a year old... Thanks |
i could suggets vbulletin softwares for forms!!!!!!!!!!
|
vbulletin is pretty slick, a license is only something like $200 i believe. i wouldn't quote me on that though, its your best bet to look into. stay miles away from phpbb

Invision Power Board is another to consider.
http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/index.html In particular, check out the new IPB version 3 preview... http://ipb3preview.ipslink.com/ Personally, I prefer vBulletin, but you may find IPB has some features / looks that better fit your needs. If in doubt, go with vBulletin - time proven software with excellent support. http://www.vbulletin.com/ Ron |
vbulletin is hands down the best forum script

Free forum softwares are phpBB /www.phpbb.com/) and SMF (www.simplemachines.org/) -- I would check them out and see if they have what you're looking for!

Vbulletin and get VBSeo installed as well.
Get keywords for the forums from wordtracker and either seed the forums with medium or medium to heavy search terms and stock it with "core" articles for faster viral growth. Hire cheap forum posters, I can help you on this for free if you wish :D and pay only per post and based on the quality you expect Ask them to respond to your seed articles and threads for better SEO or you can even have them quote your threads on other forums they post on (warning: might attract some haterz lol ) |
SMF / www.simplemachines.org

some good points, thanks Looks like VBUlletin is the way to go, what pisses me off is that they aren't selling it, they're leasing it - you have to pay a fee every year, that's too fucking fucked, fuck it, fuckers, but I guess if I can't find something at least as good then I'll have to go with them reading some mainstrem boards too, lots of votes for the simplemachines too, but all the pros agree that Vulletin is the best |

+1 for SMF (itīs free and has excellent support from their programmers)
VBulletin is nice, but might be too much for just a small to medium-sized community. And you can always migrate to it if you outgrow SMF, which is highly unlikely. |
i dont know nothing about smf, but i heard its a good one ... vbulletin is having some problems with db and you can lost some posts with vb ... phpbb was good with version 2 but had shitty spam control, version 3 has better spam control, but it is causing 500 internal server error if you have bigger traffic ... so ... lets try smf or ipb ... :) have luck with your forum! :thumbsup

vbulletin for sure
