Apple is a top notch company, very impressed with how they stand behind their product

Earlier this week my old Mac G5 crashed. It crashed when i really couldn't afford it to crash. It was shutting down every 2 minutes and the fan was going nuts.

So i take it to the genious bar and the guy ran a couple of tests and said he is going to have to take it in and do a full diagnostic on it. He told me it was going to cost me $85 to test it and i was going to have to leave it.

I got a call 2 days later and was told that this macs liquid cooling system exploded and destroyed everything except the hard drives and ram and it would be not worth repairing.

I did really feel so bad because i put that thing through the ringer. It would render HD footage for 2 weeks strait. I edited over 150 scenes 20,000 photos on that thing.

So i had a very busy week. I shot 8 scenes and didnt check my messages all week(my friends know to text me). Came back to the Mac store to pic up my broken Mac and a brand new 8 core mac. Then the lead Genious comes up and says here is your Mac G5 all fixed with brand new parts.

??? I was way out of warenty and he further told me it was done for free and i was not going to be charged the $85 service charge to see what was wrong.

This was yesterday and im still in shock. Can anyone explain this one??

I have a Mac book pro and its way solid and i will be ordering a new Mac 8 core tomorrow for my studio. I am way sold on Apple and there products. I respect a company that stands behind there product even when the warranty was done and over 2 years ago.:thumbsup

i am pretty sure they back there products up for life. I went in with my broken ipod that was well over a year old. it was even the old model. I didnt even buy it in the mac store. THe guy just took it, and gave me the new model without asking any questions.

You got lucky. I know of two people with completely opposite experiences. The motherboard on a Macbook Pro dies right at the end of warranty. One guy didn't have Applecare and that was the end of the machine. The other had Applecare from the previous owner but somehow it wasn't in their system. Took over a week to validate that the guy really had Applecare after showing the paperwork, etc.

This isn't just Apple, I had a PC die on me from Dell, it was about 2 years after the warranty and they still replaced it with brand new equipment, no charge.

Yes, there's 2 explanations:

1. the guy is a major fag and he really wants to get into your peephole
2. the guy found all the hardcore porn on your HD's and thought: "Here's somebody I should be friends with, I'll fix his computer for free"

Because it was apple's fault for putting a fucked up water cooling system in your G5. Another reason not to buy apple, if that liquid got over your hard drives all of your shit would've been gone most likely. Whoever thought putting a liquid cooling system in there when it's not needed should be fired considering the damage that can be done from it.

Mac is a company that get's it when it comes to customers.

One of the very few Computer company's that do get it. I do not use MAC but I have heard alot of stories like yours over the years. Alienware used to be really good. But now they just sell the PC's and can careless about problems with them.

HAHAHAHAHA! Very true. I always carry DVD's in my car for trade or if i get pulled over by a cop.

I did offer him a few DVD titles i shot. He declined.

Im pretty happy with the experience. Im gonna get my 8 core for my studio tomorrow and will definitely buy the apple care. Apple care is a must!! It saved me from buying a new battery when i fried it on my Mac Book pro.:2 cents:
