How long to stick with an affiliate?

I'm regularly trying out new affiliates and if after a month or so they aren't producing (compared to my other affiliates) I'll scrap them. How long do you test a new affiliate before moving on?

Do you send them a notice before you dump them?

aico 11-15-2008 04:32 PM

Affiliate, or affiliate program?

d-null 11-15-2008 04:36 PM

but maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt, he might be running a very exclusive paysite and he prefers to only have a small number of top performing affiliates working under him... in that case, I think you should maybe give them more than a month before you cut them off and ruin all the work they may have set up in that month in linking and promoting your site

YOU are the affiliate.

You send traffic to an AFFILIATE PROGRAM or SPONSOR.

The original poster. I was quoting your statement for truth.

After submitting I actually wondered if you'd misinterpret and figured "nah, he's probably smarter than that"...

qxm 11-15-2008 06:24 PM

:1orglaugh yeah, but I still figured it was worth a half tongue in cheek comment, because there is no way the op would interpret that correctly :thumbsup

Give your affiliates at least about 30 miles. That should be a long enough trial run to get accurate infos.

This thread delivers... the punch to the face over again and again and again and again and... well you get the point.

I was just thinking that the internet needs a discrete "sarcasm" emoticon that only the "people in the know" would know about :1orglaugh

spacedog 11-15-2008 07:20 PM

It's not how long, but how much traffic of a certain kind.

aniloscash 11-15-2008 09:53 PM

I think it should be based on clicks too. 30 day with 200 hits day probably isnt a good test.
