WOW! anyone see World Series of Poker Final 2008? SERIOUS INTENSE playing! info/PIC!

Was on TV last night. I don't think I've ever watched a WSP so intense!

8 thousand plus people started the tourney this year...took months to get to final table of only 9 players.

-The favorites to win got knocked out halfway through
-Runner cards on turns and rivers constantly saving the underdogs.
-Nut flushes out of nowhere knocking on King flushes.
-Low stacks becoming surviving all ins.
-pairs of 2's and 3's turning into trips and full houses.
-pots at $50M plus.
-chip leaders going from top to bottom in a hand
-knockouts by surprise
-catching rivers to save their souls on all in's
-Never saw so many Ace Queen hands trap people and pair of Jacks too.
-constant pairs dealt
-Wheel and inside straights coming on the river on All in's!
-Poker faces like I've never seen!
-So many playing the player vs. their cards to catch the pot!

down to 3 players-

Dennis Phillips - oldest at 50 years plus
Peter Eastgate from Denmark -22 years old
Ivan Demimov from Russia -27 years old.

Demidov leading - got trapped gave up most of his chips- went all in on last play -playing dead!

Eastgate took home the bracelet and $9M - broke record as youngest player at 22 to winner beating out Phil Hellmuth being the youngest years ago!

I noticed it was on during the game, but I was to involved in the game to pay attention to that. All I have to say is that was one hell of a finish last night:)

Watched it a few days ago. Good stuff!

Eastgate was kinda emotionless though. Strange guy :)

it was great, I saw it a couple of days ago.

That nutflush didn't come out of nowhere and I am still stunned that he layed his king high flush down against the nutflush. his instincts were very good and with no possible full houses on the table and holding a king high flush many of players would have been knocked out right then and there.

Eastgate build up so quick in the last couple of hands he got lucky that he had 2 people bluffing all in against him while he was actually holding strong hands, who lays down trips when there is no flush or straight possibilities on the board. I think he is a good player and deserves it, however I think Demidov is the better player.

I need to check that out. Ya know I remember watching you win a tourney in Costa Rica a while back. At the the time you just seemed to be winning on sheer luck and didn't seem to have a larger wealth of knowledge of the game. Look at you now... Did that one event get you interested or were you merely bluffing the competition at the time?

I think Chris was like 41st or 44th and knocked out Gus Hanson.

Good times. I like the format of waiting for the final table. Everyone makes more money. :)

Someday, something bad will happen with all that cash lying around.

yep you are right, it was late, so tired, but yep, that nut flush didn't come out of nowhere it did result it a showdown thinking you had top flush only to get beat out with the nut...that comes around once in great while.

And I agree, Demidov played an amazing game, he should have taken it home. His cards were constantly amazing. He got played a couple times though-tough positions.

I think I saw him in the background in one of the camera shots with his eyes closed, I think he was napping. it was a long road.

I was always interested in the game. learn as you go...did I know then...hmmm, some luck, some bluff, some knowledge. all mixed in ;)

I'm not an expert, but damn if I don't love the sheer strategic thinking of the game itself. That is what impresses me the most. :thumbsup

Lori? Do you play in Vegas? I have grown extremely playing poker and I play a lot. Mainly cash games and some tournaments, both very different. I find that every time I play cash i am 85% of the time i am up and at minimum have doubled up. My problem right now is getting off the table when i am up in a cash game, I like to stick around and get more gutsy as my stack grows which sometimes results with me running into a bigger hand or someone sucking out on me, but I am working on that.

I won a bad beat a couple of weeks ago that brought me 32k in the first hand sitting down and that made my love for this game even more extreme.

The money in the game is great but I don't look at my chip stack as money it is armor to me. The math and figuring out probabilities and reading people is what really makes the game for me, that is why i prefer live action over online play anyday of the week.

Sebastian
