what size screen to optimize for?
hey,
what res screen do you optimize your sites for? ta :upsidedow |
Starting to do most for 1024 now...
|
1024 is majority
|
1024 up to 1900
|
1024 as listed.
Comes default on many systems now and most users never change the default settings. |
Well to make your site(s) a pleasure for all surfers I still try to keep it at 800 width. Yes my own monitors can easily handle larger sizes but keep in mind that most surfers still use monitors that would serve a better experience at 800 width, and more and more surfers are using laptops which either make you go blind at 1024 width or simply give the impression that the content is not a very high quality at that setting. Also keep in mind that videos and pictures at 1024 or higher width, are much larger in size and thus take longer to display to your surfer. Another thing is that most browsers automatically adjust image sizes to the browsers display area, thus a 1024 width image will only show at less smaller sizes and grainy.

All sizes?
I don't know. I just think that with how far CSS and coding 2.0 practices have come, you should be able to make your site adjust and fit to any resolution. Why limit yourself? |
I agree with StuartD. Although, it can be tricky, if you're not slick with CSS. I use 1024 as my standard now. Check your traffic though, most decent traffic analyzing tools show results for screen resolution.
K, I got bored, here are mine from one of my new sites. http:///tgp.smuttycash.com/hotlinked...-stats-gfy.jpg |

Do your self a favor and look and see what YOUR surfers are using.

1024x768
If you care a lot about the lower resolution users either make a second version for them or keep the content to the left so they won't have to scroll sideways for it. |
Try to stick around 950w. Leaves a little room for an IM to be open, and doesn't make the 800 peeps scroll too much. I try to keep between the majority and the next down, if you want to just have a general size to keep to.
