What is jail really like?
What does the average day of jail consist of, moment by moment?
The bathroom situation, the shower situation, do you have to sleep with the light on? How often are you out of your cell? Can you really be abused by the other inmates as easily as the TV depicts? |

On a serious side I think it all depends on what country you are in. I had a few freinds that were in and out of jail over here in the UK and they seemed to enjoy it. They had everything from a libary to computer classes plus they had free food and a free bed.. |
Different at each location... but not uncommon: wake up, go to chow hall... come back... lock down for a few hours in cell... get a few hours out in the block or yard... eat... lockdown or block / yard again... eat... more of the same... lockdown. TV and cards in the block.
I would run for about 2hours a day in the morning and work out in the afternoon... get a job sweeping or what ever to break up the day... Sometimes they'd lock the whole place down for a few days. (LSD bust back in 1993) |
I have a relative who did a weekend at a jail in a rich neighborhood in So Cal.
On Sundays, the inmates got IHOP pancakes for breakfast. when he was in LA county, he had to buddy up with the mexican mexicans to not get butt raped. |
Yes it would be easy to get fucked... And shanks and people getting shanked is real. The sound of a man screaming with a shank in his back is bad. It's like 80% drug dealers from the projects... Probably 2% are not in gangs.

Depends on what type of 'jail' you are talking about.
County jails are both a joke and a pain... But not in the ass. County jail sentences are usually short. Days to months. Year long sentences are usually sent to the state. What happens to you really depends on who you are. If you are 60 years old with a heart condition people usually won't fuck with you out of respect. If you are 20 and have expensive shoes, expect to lose them. If you look at act like a gang banger expect to get shit from the real gang bangers. If you are 35 and look like a typical American male expect most gang members to pretend you don't even exist. If you are in the State system expect to see more of the things you see in movies. Rape does NOT happen to everyone. Not all prisoners with 4+ years are rapists... Most of the guys that get raped were 'easy targets'... The type that doesn't tell and doesn't fight back. Who wants to spend 2 weeks in solitary? If you are in the Federal system expect to see a lot more of the crazy shit... Here people are usually pretty fucked up in the head when they get in so sexual deviancy is pretty common. Still there is no system to fuck every guy that gets in there in the ass. Again if you look like the average Joe six pack you most likely won't be fucked with much. To some extent having skills others like is a plus. As in, if you can show someone how to send and receive Email or help them get free data access on their pre-paid cell... etc... If you are getting fucked with you can get into solitary to be alone if you need to.. |

All that shit you see in movies and else where is bullshit. I've been to jail and it's nothing. Look at me. Shit. Nothing ever happened to me. I've heard of dumb shit happening in max but not in any lower security shit. Nobody gets raped or stabbed or anything. It's all bullshit.

Pretty pud shit. It sucked, im never going back... but wasn't too bad. This as min as security you could get. No barb wire or anything even on the fences. |

There are about:
2,299,116 prisoners in jail+state+federal at any given time. Of sampled inmates 60,500 reported sexual victimization. 4.5% To compare prison rape with FBI crime stats for 2007 we get 2.98% of the population raped. Only 1 out of 6 rapes are reported so that number is more likely to be 17.92% or 18%... So from this you can conclude that there is actually more rape outside of prisons... The crappy part is that outside of a prison, as a male, you are 98% less likely to become a statistic. But still... Of the 4.5% of prisoners that get raped, a large portion of them got raped because they were either an easy target or it was retribution for doing something really stupid to someone you shouldn't have fucked with from the beginning. |

I was drunk and got put in jail.. so drunk I was put in the suicide watch block (was definitely not suicidal, lol)
They let me out of my cell with a towel, drunk as fuck, to make my phone call. Doods were locked down yellin shit at me while I was trying to use the phone. "Hey white boy I want your sausage in the morning" (which by the way was fucking horrible) So me, being drunk yelled back u want sausage u come get some beef. C.O. (correctional officier) just looked at me like you said what to him O.o Next day a C.O slipped me a book(I wasn't supposed to have) and told me not to let anyone else see it. Then later they put me in a cell with another guy, we were both naked.. talk about gay and that concludes my night in jail |
