DRIVING RULES! Who goes first at stop signs? Road Rule Questions and complaints!.....

ugh, does anyone on the roads in LA these days know the rules?

Every time I'm at a stop sign and other cars stop at same time...who goes first?

It is the car on the right. Nobody seems to remember that and then they get pissed. There are a dozen more rules broken everyday when I'm on the road.

Drivers Ed 101-what rules do you remember?

would love to hear other questions about rules and lets see who can answer them! Or broken rules that piss you off. U.S. driving rules that is.

I always get lost but that doesn't count :winkwink:

LA drivers suck. :disgust

When can you pass on a 2 lane road?
What does a flashing yellow mean?
Do you know?
what other questions?

Don't even get me started on NYC drivers. :)

Brad 11-10-2008 11:20 AM

If there is any hesitation from the driver to my right then I always go. I'm not particularly interested in waiting if the people at the stop sign don't know the proper etiquette.

Evading a Peace Officer
• Do not deliberately run away or attempt to evade a peace officer performing
his/her duties (police pursuit). The punishment is up to one year in
county jail.
• If serious bodily injury occurs during a police pursuit, the punishment
is:
- up to seven years in state prison or up to one year in county jail, or
- a fine of $2000 to $10,000, or
- both a fine and imprisonment
• If a person is killed during a police pursuit, the punishment is up to ten
years in state prison.

Youc an pass on a two lane road if there is a dashed passing line instead of the solid double line. Or you can pass on the right ONLY when the car in front of you is stopped to take a left and there is adequate room for the pass.

Flashing yellow means come to a COMPLETE STOP then proceed cautiously (I think).

Flashing yellow just means caution be aware of cross traffic. Normally a flashing yellow is for the main road, and on the side cross road it has flashing red.

It's different rules in LA. Who goes first is dependent on the value of the cars, the hotness of the girls in the car, and what radio station you have blasting.

Phoenix 11-10-2008 11:33 AM

buy a gun...and shoot first

Meeper 11-10-2008 11:34 AM

Everyone in LA is in a rush all the time. Then add traffic to it, and everyone is frustrated and doesn't like to wait / obey the rules of the road. Gotta love it.

The Adult Broker 11-10-2008 11:36 AM

if you are allowed to turn right on a red light and the lane veers off that way, do you still stop or just go right through?

The Adult Broker 11-10-2008 11:36 AM

what is the car length you are suppose to drive behind another? (in LA it s 1 inch it seems!)

Tom_PM 11-10-2008 11:38 AM

"right on red" has different rules in different states I think. For example in NY, you are ALLOWED to go right on red UNLESS posted otherwise. And no you wouldnt just go right through, once again you come to a complete 100% STOP, then if no traffic is coming, you may go right on red.

The Adult Broker 11-10-2008 11:41 AM

if your blinkers aren't working, what are the hand signals to turn? other than flipping someone off?

Tom_PM 11-10-2008 11:43 AM

Left arm straight out to signal left, bent up at the elbow to signal right.

justinsain 11-10-2008 12:01 PM

Does anyone know how to merge into traffic these days :Oh crap

You forgot to insert the +/- for big truck syndrome... :thumbsup

DannysReviews|com 11-10-2008 12:41 PM

LOL.

Anyway yah, to the right or a hand signal if you are unsure.

JenniDahling 11-10-2008 02:00 PM

Daaang my blood pressure went up just thinking about LA traffic. You're right gal, LA drivers do suck! But at least you don't have to worry about geriatric driving. Nothing scarier than seeing an old person who can barely see over the dashboard coming at you in the wrong direction on the freeway. Viva la Florida!

Yea right/ that was going to be my next question! In LA, they would rather run you off the cliff than let you merge to get in. Or speed up when they see you trying!

is there a rule about merging?

mrwilson 11-10-2008 02:49 PM

Its just the same, if not worse in the UK.
People here just dont give a fuck.

no it doesn't

CosmicTang 11-10-2008 05:19 PM

LA drivers are MUCH better than Florida, sorry. I swear you'd think blinkers were a luxury option on cars in Florida they're used so seldomly.

sltr 11-10-2008 05:53 PM

whomever finishes their text message 1st always has the right of way at a stop, merging, and changing lanes in la la.

they don't have to look either, they just get to go.

The Adult Broker 11-10-2008 05:55 PM

yea and I think when it says no left turn, then they shouldn't hold a line of cars up so they can turn into that McDonald's

Spunky 11-10-2008 05:57 PM

The person on the right.I always get eye contact if I can and wave them through if you're there at the same time.avoid accidents if you can

The Adult Broker 11-11-2008 03:01 PM

yea, well I still stand by my statement that LA drivers just suck

Kudles 11-12-2008 07:12 PM

I just go I don't wait

buyandsell 11-12-2008 07:18 PM

I think maybe they started making turn signal an optional extra on cars here?
