Recommend a good video camera please

I'm not sure how it works because all my life I've used ultra compacts.

Now looking for something to shoot TV quality video with manual focus available and in-line mic.

Widescreen and non-hd

Can I get something like that for $1-3k?

Decide if you like Sony or Panasonic.
Then just go over to B and H or whatever electronics site you like and trust. Find one with the features you like in your price range.
Ideally you would write a few down and then visit a store that has them to see how they feel before you decide.

I look for a cam that does the job, I don't look for the cheapest cam I can find. can't really help ya with what you have in mind to be honest.
