Upgraded Spybot and laptop seems slow.

I upgraded my version of Spybot and now it seems like my computer fan is running
all day long and it takes longer than normal to click through folders.

Anyone else have this happen?

My processes show IE revving up the cpu every few secs but firefox uses nothing.

I never had any luck with those free programs

farkedup 11-03-2008 07:50 AM

odds are its one of the addons to spybot, not the actual main app.

CurrentlySober 11-03-2008 07:56 AM

Do people still download & use these types of nonsense?

Its nearly 2009 you know...

Sosa 11-03-2008 08:18 AM

When you installed the update did you remove any check boxes to not run any of the addon stuff?

Barefootsies 11-03-2008 08:42 AM

Nah, I think it was one of the recent MS updates that is doing it. Not spybot.

My laptop has been doing the same thing recently, and it's one of my only machines without spybot on it, or installed. My laptop is on Vista, and it seems every time I use it (every few days) there is some new security patch or whatever.

It has been doing the exact same thing you are describing.

My three desktops all have S&D on them, and none of doing what you are describing. However, I DO disable their new features that came out a few updates ago. That resident shield thing, and anti-phishing.

THAT is what is probably slowing down your machine. I know it was mine, and it drove me fucking nuts.

i had a ms update kill my system like a month ago.

sortie 11-03-2008 09:15 AM

I installed flash player 10 too and the flash ads on yahoo lock the page for 30 secs
or more trying to load the ad.

Sucks.

I allowed all the Spybot options to install; figured it would work better.

sortie 11-03-2008 09:22 AM

Well, I right clicked the Spybot icon in the tray and deselected the

Resident IE "use resident IE sessions"
Resident protection
Use source whitelist

Now my pc is fast as lightning again and no more fan with the cpu shooting up.

Either I just got lucky or that was the problem.

i don't run anythign for adware, i block j/s,activex,cookies, hell yeah!

sortie 11-03-2008 09:29 AM

My PC is running good now except on yahoo pages.

I think it's flash 10.

Maybe I roll back to flash 9.........I'll think about it for a while.

But yeah, if your folders on your PC open slow as hell then try the Spybot fix above.
That definitely worked!!!!!
