Is it me or is GFY slowing down?
 

And not like slowing down server wise, but not as much activity?

Is it because of the recession? People working more and bullshitting less?

You can not pretend to be an internet baller without paying your ISP bill. It is the end of the month/start of new one. They should have their cable or whatever turned back on soon.

it is so slow I even peeked into the contest threads just to take a quick gawk at the losers there :1orglaugh

Dude I did that yesterday, saw a few people with 15k+ posts and reg dates of 2002, and I didn't recognize any of them, so I checked their last posts history, and EVERY post was in contest threads. :Oh crap

GFY slowing down seems like a fact to me but obviously only the mods could chime in with some info about the daily new threads/new posts, logged members etc (not that they;d do it obviously)

I guess the reason is a mix of industry decrease/slowdown etc and just GFY losing it's appeal to some extent

also, you can't expect some people to post every fucking day on a fucking message board

It's been slowing down for quite some time.
Mods could chime in about the stats and page view counts and such but I'd venture to say that those stats are drastically affected by the many contest threads on going at any given time.

However, just because the # of posts has slowed down a lot, there is still "silent activity" where a lot of the industry has eyes here. It's still "the" industry board and slow down or not, that is not likely to change for quite some time.

All the surfers got tired of the 'would you it hit' threads and moved on to the tubes.

That's true ... just because people aren't posting doesn't mean they are watching. I had a guy contact me to buy some DVDs that has been been a member of GFY since like 2005 and he has never made 1 post, but he reads the boards he says almost every day.

We've all left #gfy and started a new channel same server, irc.slashnet.org channel #webmasters to appeal to more then just GFY users and allow a few members who nappy and FF banned from #gfy to participate again.

web 2.0 arrived a while ago

I've been "pruning" the threads for a 1 day period for a long time now.. It used to be consistently 5 pages during the week and 4 on the weekends.. Now it's 4, sometimes 5 during the week and 3 usually on the weekends.. So yeah, by that simple measure it's slowed down.

You said it StuartD. I even know of people who simply surf the board, without even loging in.

reminds me of people that would go to a party and just hang out at a back wall and not say a word to anyone, what is wrong with typing some words and having a conversation or two when something interests? :2 cents:
