Socks 11-05-2002 09:17 PM

And how much of that is duplicate data too. I've seen 3 terrabytes of unique shit in every category imagineable before, it's pretty sweet, but those fileswapping services are a *mess*

pimplink 11-06-2002 12:30 AM

Damn, that's a lot of hacked copies of Photoshop :1orglaugh

KingK7 11-06-2002 12:35 AM

There's so much porn on Kazaa its unbelievable.
These P2P programs are taking a serious chunk out of our business. Not to mention the music industry's business.

jollyperv 11-06-2002 01:12 AM

Fuck the music industry, let it crumble....There has been nothing worthwhile on a major label for the past 10 years. NOTHING.

X37375787 11-06-2002 01:18 AM

too much free porn :(

EscortBiz 11-06-2002 01:58 AM

almsot 500,000,000 ffiles thats a half a BILLLLLION WOWOWWOOOWOW

Mutt 11-06-2002 02:37 AM

yup. P2P is taking money out of our pockets and the chunk is getting bigger every month :(

at least the music and movie biz is fighting back. nobody in adult is. not that it would help, there isn't a content producer in porn with enough money to mount a legal fight, easily a million bucks in legal fees just to roll your sleeves up.

so the best we can hope for is to support Hollywood's efforts.
Futile battle that it may be.

Hollywood is powerful, i think eventually it is going to cost them so much money that Washington will step in and pass some serious legislation. But even then how many copyright policemen can the FBI or whoever would be in charge hire to gather evidence against file traders. Then the cost of prosecuting people.

nightmare man nightmare. I keep trying to imagine what it will be like in 10 years when computers and the Net are even easier to navigate. Will the music and porn biz be half of what is today in total sales? Less? I believe the music industry numbers, I know it from my own shopping behaviour and my friends and my family who run a chain of CD stores.

And shut the fuck up about "the music industry deserves it because the music they put out is all shit". You don't like the music don't fucking buy it. What kind of moron makes an argument that because a product isn't up to his standards it justifies 'stealing' it. And yes, I download music off WinMx, not that often but I do. Never downloaded a movie, porn or mainstream.

torny 11-06-2002 04:29 AM

I read a news article yesterday that said music sales are down 25% this year compared to last year, and they were blaming file sharing. Sucks to be in that industry.

gornyhuy 11-06-2002 09:23 AM

What about doing what some people in the music industry are doing: seeding the P2P networks with bullshit material that is disguised as the real thing. The hope is that the real stuff becomes too painful to find?

For example: I think Eminem's latest CD was getting ripped and distributed like crazy, so they put out gigs of fake mp3s out that were nothing more than a 10 second chorus loop repeated to fill out the exact filesize of the whole song.

P2P users couldn't tell whether they were getting real music until after they had invested the time downloading in the first place, and by then, 100 more people were already sharing the bogus copy.
Should be pretty easy to do for content providers and paysites who have a lot of resources. Even better if you embed a clickthrough to your affiliate ID in the bogus clip.

I DON'T buy it, I thought I made that clear in my post.

Been to a Wherehouse music or a media play lately and seen the price of CDs?

People are getting RAPED and they don't even know it.
$17-20 for a plastic disc full of shit.

They are the thieves, if you don't see that you're fucking blind.

Artists actually would KEEP [note: I did not say MAKE] a lot more money selling music directly to their fans than going through a record company. Example: http://www.anybodylisten.com/home/co...ove_letter.htm

tree 11-06-2002 12:57 PM

fuck them....im sick and tired of spending 16 bucks on a CD to gt 2 or 3 songs worth listening to. maybe if they didnt fill CDs with shit songs / phone calls / talking.... people wouldnt be so apt to steal it. whats the last CD that came out that you could put in and listen all the way through without having to skip tracks because of gayness?

mp3s are great :thumbsup

it will never stop...cant erase information. as long as they put music out on CD forat its gonna get jacked. after napster shut down it took what?...a week till morpheus and audiogalaxy came out.

You actually BELIEVE that?

First of all - they're not losing sales from last year - the issue is that their sales didn't GROW as much as they projected they should!

Second, hasn't anyone heard about the recession?

Third, they've been raising prices every year, and this year and last were no exceptions. Average price $18 on a disk that costs them less than .50c to produce. Who's getting fucked here? Hint: It's not the record companies.

Cheers,
Backov

who would buy a membership if they could simply download full length movies during their sleep.. you can easily download 5+ gigs of movies every day with a broadband connection...

and people say tgp's are the problem.. at least they have ads and dont serve hour-long movies.

Hey look at that! Somebody finally woke up and smelled the sour coffee. I bet if you do a search for different amateur girls names you find all kinds of their material - vids from the member areas and such on there.

Yeah but if you erased all record companies, how would anyone get to know who the bands are so people downlaod the songs anyway! It's the investment $$$ from the record company that gets a band noticed inthe first place (at least on a level large enough to get REAL record sales). if every artist was left to having to go grass roots then the only bands you'd ever hear of would be the ones with either:

a) rich members who had $$$ to self promote or,
b) businessperson members who raised angel capitol to promote with.

I'm not saying record companies are the "good guy" but let's not bash it totally out of perspective. For every band they spend $500,000 promoting that sells millions of those $0.50 per to produce albums, there's 10 bands they spend $500,000 that go nowhere.

You ever read billboard? Look at the number of executive jobs changing hands in the industry every month. The guys and gals who do the signing of the bands are constantly in flux because it's hard as hell to pick a true "winner" consistently.

jollyperv 11-06-2002 05:27 PM

Hmmm....I'm in a band...you know how we get noticed? We drive around on tour, in a shitty $1200 van that we bought from money scraped together, then we play our asses off, hopefully make a couple bucks from the club to pay for gas, and hopefully sell a couple of records (the records that we put out ourselves)...and come home hopefully breaking even....

And you know what? I wouldn't change a thing.

Why does everyone think all the great bands have to be played on the radio or seen in an arena?

Go to a shithole local dive in any given town, that's where you'll find the real rockers....fuck all these record contract pussies and their plush tour buses and shitty music...

This whole fucking country has it backwards and nobody even realizes it...

Rep 11-06-2002 05:31 PM

I will destroy the P2P network.
