When shit goes bad it piles up doesn't it?

A couple nights ago my FURNACE took a shit and it ended up being the motor so after finally tracking down the part to fix it I find out I can't get it in till FRIDAY so $150 and a bit of work and I'll at least be able to fix the furnace myself.

I don't know anything about furnaces or major appliances but its basically a giant fan with 2 power wires, a ground and a little tube hooked to a PVC chimney so I'm just gonna do it! I took the old motor off already and dear god whoever wired it up originally hacked up more wires than they should have so I'm taking the time to fix some nasty looking splices and oddly there's 3 wires that go into the box that aren't hooked to ANYTHING

so between person shit and getting lost in Fable 2 for a couple of days that's where I've been! Friday I'll be fixing the furnace and taking the kids trick or treating so if anybody needs me hit me up on IM's and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I can't keep up with this forum this week thanks to thread subscriptions that don't even email me :(

Be prepared to spend a pretty good penny.

sometimes I get the daily subscription emails but sometimes I don't... I usually just keep an eye on subscribed ones in the userCP.

My furnace is old now but I'd rather pay the $150 for the part and fix it myself and cross my fingers that nothing else goes this winter instead of paying the $1800 I was quoted for a new furnace installed... Yet I can buy a furnace for $700. What I'm thinking about doing is just taking the time to find one with very close dimensions to my current one and putting a new one in next year.

I've started doing things myself for a while now. This past summer my hot water heater went out on me and I didn't want to wait for a repairman so I took my dads truck to the store and bought a hot water heater and put it in myself. Who wants to go a week without hot water?

SO much of this shit is simple logic that can be figured out easily.

My wife had unplugged one of the 3 electric radiators yesterday to move it so it was off all night and DAMN was it ever cold this morning when I walked to the bathroom. It was 58 in the house (68 in bedroom with heater) When all 3 radiators are running it stays plenty warm.
