Do any of you use the finger swipe security feature -- My new laptop came with it...

Just curious :bigears

For whatever reason, it makes me feel pretty damn important :thumbsup

poornpig 10-29-2008 06:32 AM

Sorry to post this, but this is not a security feature.

br4sco 10-29-2008 06:34 AM

I have it on my laptop too, I use it to impress stupid people but it's probably not very useful

dav3 10-29-2008 06:35 AM

Biometric scanning complete. You may now proceed to login and get pwned by a codec or java virus.

I haven't used it yet (even though the simple fact that it's there makes me feel James Bond esque...yes, I'm nerdy) because I'm scared that I won't be able to get back into my laptop, but now it seems as though there are conspiracy theories behind it!:helpme

Don't worry about some GFY computer docs telling you something LOL.

brassmonkey 10-29-2008 06:53 AM

i have it as well you scan yr fingers and no one can access yr data but u :thumbsup

noisejunky 10-29-2008 06:55 AM

Yeah, I use it - mostly to keep from having to type my password in. It doesn't really provide additional security, just convenience.

Yes, but I swipe my cock over it instead.

I do not know how to call it. I do not know a name for it. Maybe a fake security feature or something similar.

It takes 5-10 minutes to login without cutting you off your fingers.

Short example:
Try to imagine this computer is located at your office and you do not remove all your fingerprints on the desk or maybe a cup of tea, the display, ... and so on.
Creating a fake fingerprint from the existing ones you left in the near of the computer after you left the office for a few minutes does not take much time. These scanners do not check if the fingerprint or fake fingerprint comes from a living finger.

Oh .. do you have biometric data in your ID Card? Its much faster to read your ID Card and print the fake fingerprint than creating and searching it on your own.

I am sure major search engines not focusing on a specific topic give you enough results on this topic. I am sure there are howtos on youtube, too.

It's great until it doesn't work.

Is there a 'sample too small to read' error?

:upsidedow

Unless the thief has access to a highly difficult to obtain material called a GUMMI BEAR

Then he can get in easily.

See here for the story.

To make casts, they had:

* Play-doh
* Target-brand gummy bears
* Silly Putty
* Elmer's Reusable Adhesive Tac 'N Stik
* RoseArt Modeling Clay
* Crayola Model Magic Soft, Spongy Modeling Material

---> That's like a 1st grader's heaven right there

These here use a bit glue to get the fingerprint from items, so you do not need a finger to create it.
