US Pilot Ordered to Fire 24 Rockets at UFO

LONDON (Reuters) - Two U.S. fighter planes were scrambled and ordered to shoot down an unidentified flying object (UFO) over the English countryside during the Cold War, according to secret files made public on Monday.

One pilot said he was seconds away from firing 24 rockets at the object, which moved erratically and gave a radar reading like "a flying aircraft carrier."

The pilot, Milton Torres, now 77 and living in Miami, said it spent periods motionless in the sky before reaching estimated speeds of more than 7,600 mph.

After the alert, a shadowy figure told Torres he must never talk about the incident and he duly kept silent for more than 30 years.

His story was among dozens of UFO sightings in defense ministry files released at the National Archives in London.

In a written account, Torres described how he scrambled his F-86 D Sabre jet in calm weather from the Royal Air Force base at Manston, Kent in May 1957.

"I was only a lieutenant and very much aware of the gravity of the situation. I felt very much like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest," he said.

"The order came to fire a salvo of rockets at the UFO. The authentication was valid and I selected 24 rockets.

"I had a lock-on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier," he added. "The larger the airplane, the easier the lock-on. This blip almost locked itself."

At the last moment, the object disappeared from the radar screen and the high-speed chase was called off.

He returned to base and was debriefed the next day by an unnamed man who "looked like a well-dressed IBM salesman."

"He threatened me with a national security breach if I breathed a word about it to anyone," he said.

The documents contain no official explanation for the incident, which came at a time of heightened tension between the West and the Soviet Union. Planes were on constant stand-by at British bases for a possible Soviet attack.

The files blame other UFO sightings on weather balloons, clouds or normal aircraft. Torres said he had been waiting 50 years for an explanation.

"I shall never forget it," he told the Times. "On that night I was ordered to open fire even before I had taken off. That had never happened before."

UFO expert David Clarke said the sighting may have been part of a secret U.S. project to create phantom aircraft on radar screens to test Soviet air defenses.

"Perhaps what this pilot had seen was some kind of experiment in electronic warfare or maybe it was a UFO," he said. "Something very unusual happened."

The files are online at: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos
Wouldn't it be fun to fly to a completely different planet and play cat & mouse games with that planets best weapons, knowing they will never even touch you?

But seriously, that would be pretty neat trick to generate non-existent aircraft on an enemy radar, without even having plane in the sky.

jscott 10-28-2008 01:31 PM

Thats nuts! But it sucks how this worlds governments always try to keep quiet with this ufo shit, how can we be the only life in all the universes? impossible, life is out there!!! realize it, understand it, and we should try to keep up with their technology!

BardMan 10-28-2008 01:35 PM

as if a 7600 mph craft in 1957 would have to worry about someone firing *24 LOL* rockets at it. ... i mean....24 the magic # or something?

I highly doubt anything of that sophistication would be worried about getting fired on by our very old tech at the time.

fwiw- I do believe that we are not alone.

Did you ever read the book from Nick Cook, "The Hunt for Zero Point: Inside the Classified World of Antigravity Technology"
available from:

It's a good read if you are interested in space, time, inventions, dimensions, history, nazi's & current government cover-up's for technologies.

I haven't heard of that. But I did see something on the science channel that had a guy demonstrating some type of zero point energy where he made bowling balls and stuff levitate. I'm sure there's a youtube video somewhere with him in it. Let me see...

Ahh... it was actually a 70lbs cannonball, fast foward to about 7:30 for that.

Definitely interesting stuff.

bloggingseo 10-28-2008 04:03 PM

LOL , I heard about this. There is just no telling what it was.

kinjo 10-28-2008 04:03 PM

will definitely look up the book
thanx for info

did they have planes that carried "24 rockets"
Back then?
I don't think so

Actually, the F-86 Sabre carried 36 rockets.

i love when pornographers think they know shit about something.

so then the other pornographer says... sure they carried 24 rockets back then.

Manowar 10-28-2008 07:05 PM

Doing some quick research on this guy...
It smells like bullshit to me.

Kudles 10-28-2008 07:49 PM

Please tell me that wasn't real

If it is the hippie dude I am thinking of with no real education - it is BS and he has never been able to produce results with 3rd party bystanders around i.e. legit witnesses.

I already expressed my views of space aliens visiting earth way to many times. So I shall just leave it at, if they said it would be a national security breach. Especially during the years that a lot of covert crap was going on. Why should we again jump to space aliens? Because someone in a suit showed up that looked like an "IBM salesman" - like most businessmen did not during that time period.

Forget about he received orders to fire. Then latter says he had orders to fire before taking off - if so why not fire when he had multiple chances as it hovered and crap?

That is a good question.

Maybe he wanted to be sure he had a perfect shot before he spent the majority of his rockets? Or possibly the UFO was stationary before the plane was put in the air, and once it was en route, the UFO started playing with the jet in the erratic nature he later described. Who knows.

It would be awesome to listen to the radio communication between the pilot and traffic controller, or whoever they talk to. But that will probably never happen. :(

Lol, that hippie guy is so fucking funny.

That thimble with the "glue" rising from it?
Rotate the video 180 and you'll see a VERY normal natural effect: it's jut dropping from the ceiling. The freak just rotated the camera upside down.

Same with the plier. Either falling or pulling it with a tungsten wire

People who believe this shit are really stupid lol

viencarl 10-29-2008 02:41 AM

wow nice stuff :):):)

It might not be real levitation, but it's definitely more than just turning the camera upside down. That is apparent from watching the videos, to most people at least.

kmanrox 10-29-2008 05:44 AM

i dont believe it... but if i WERE true.. why in the fuck are we getting agro with aliens light years ahead of us in technology?

must have been a Bush who made the order

The Government tries to keep it quiet, because the government is run by aliens.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

To most people? Is that the standard now?

Don't be a dick and rotate the video. First, the "glue" moves towards the edge of the thimble..THEN it SHOOTS out.

rotate and learn.

I'm sure there's other lifeforms out there. Doesn't mean they're here. The chances of them actually visiting as are just as remote as us visiting them.

d-null 10-29-2008 10:16 AM

that is real bright, shooting at aliens :2 cents:

It's slightly possible that this maybe the case, with the thimble/glue or whatever was in there. But what about the 70lbs cannonball directly after the thimble?

Has no one explained the difference between UFOs and aliens to you yet?
