The EU put the nail in its own coffin when it rejected Irelands no vote and made Switzerland vote 5 times, Russia has also said the EU will fall apart.

I really doubt in that...

You are absolutely correct about that. The EU bureaucracy no longer has any legitimacy with the people. Additionally the Euro zone is in huge trouble economically. Here is a good article about it:

Europe on the brink of currency crisis meltdown

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/c...-meltdown.html

Quote:

The financial crisis spreading like wildfire across the former Soviet bloc threatens to set off a second and more dangerous banking crisis in Western Europe, tipping the whole Continent into a fully-fledged economic slump.

Currency pegs are being tested to destruction on the fringes of Europe’s monetary union in a traumatic upheaval that recalls the collapse of the Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1992.

This is the biggest currency crisis the world has ever seen,” said Neil Mellor, a strategist at Bank of New York Mellon.

Experts fear the mayhem may soon trigger a chain reaction within the eurozone itself. The risk is a surge in capital flight from Austria – the country, as it happens, that set off the global banking collapse of May 1931 when Credit-Anstalt went down – and from a string of Club Med countries that rely on foreign funding to cover huge current account deficits.

Made Switzerland vote 5 times on what? Switzerland isn't an EU member, so I can't imagine how and why the EU would make them vote on anything

Are you living under a rock? Even the biggest EU cheerleader would not make such a statement. What part of "This is the biggest currency crisis the world has ever seen" are you missing? :error

DWB 10-28-2008 08:43 AM

Just as a side note...

All of you who say "it will never happen" I'm sure were the same guys who said that there would never be a "EURO" currency to unite all of Europe the same you say now there will never be an "AMERO" currency to unite all of North America.

Some people just don't have a clue what is going on in the world and live in total denial of a changing world.

I don't know if the EU Union will fall apart or not, but to sit here and say it will "never happen" is just as ignorant as saying "we are alone in the universe."

Lets also keep in mind that if the thread starter posted 6 months ago that the USA was going to fall into an economic crisis and the markets were going to come crashing down, you would say he was an idiot and post pics if guys wearing tin foil hats.

In closing... we are pornographers. Not a single one of us works in government or has any clue to what is really going on outside of what your media source tells you. So lets not pretend to know what may or may not even happen based on your professional opinion that is worth shit. Most of you can't even do porn right so what makes anyone think you have the slightest idea about the state of the world?

Its more simple, I don't talk about EU civil wars, but its western counterpart had one 300 years ago, worked pretty good imho.

That "western conterpart" didn't even exist 300 years ago.

I love the baddog-like idiots who come in with their presumptuous positions without ever returning to back them up - and no I am not talking about buzzy. His point is, that perhaps you don't realise it, perhaps you don't live in Europe, or you've never traveled there - or perhaps you just have your head up your ass, but the EU isn't particularly popular among a lot of Western Europeans (particularly) for the way it conducts itself and does pretty much what it pleases, completely ignoring the people of Europe.

It may not collapse anytime soon, and the power-base may prevent it from occurring, but the EU is a fucking joke. The common market place isn't a bad idea, but it is the super-state they are trying to build along with it that is the problem - and people aren't too happy with it.

I never thought I would be agreeing with you and Buzzy on something but you are absolutely correct about this. The EU is a undemocratic nightmare that is completely disconnected with the people in Europe. It could not win a popular vote in a single EU country at this point. The common market was a fine idea but the current form of EU super state is a catastrophe.

What does that have to do with anything I wrote?

Buzzy claimed the EU had Switzerland vote five times on something, and I'd like to know what that might have been - and how the EU 'made' a non-member state vote on anything in the first place.

I'm living in the EU btw.

So much for presumptuous idiots.

DamianJ 10-28-2008 11:30 AM

PMSL at the Telegraph's website being used as a source of anti-EU "fact".

For those outside the UK, the telegraph is probably our most right wing, anti-EU piece of shit paper we make.

It's hardly a surprise that they think this.

Get some links from The Guardian that agree with it, and I might listen.

Here you go:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...globaleconomy1

Quote:

......Iceland, already bailed out with a $2bn loan but facing a 10% decline in national output, indicated it would need a further $4bn as it turned to its Nordic neighbours, Norway and Sweden, for aid. With global financial turmoil sweeping central and eastern Europe, experts pointed to a likely wave of falling dominos as countries living way beyond their means succumbed to frozen global credit.

Emerging economies in central and eastern Europe within the EU for the past four-and-a-half years have enjoyed powerful economic growth fuelled by excessive lending from western banks which have taken over local institutions. The result has been soaring inflation and trade deficits.

Andreas Wörgötter, a senior OECD economist in Paris, said: "A common aspect of their problems is an over-expansion of domestic demand, particularly in areas like real estate, which helped create the property bubble - and this was loan-financed. If the loans were in foreign currencies then the wind is blowing on these countries from all four directions."

Gros calculates EU banks have ?1,500bn in outstanding loans to these countries and "you need only a small percentage of these to go bad and you can imagine the scale of the recapitalisation required".
