19" monitors or 17" LCD
Another fun debate :)
What do you guys use as a monitor and what resolution. I have a shit 17" with 1024x728 right now. I'm trying to decide between a 19" monitor (about 18" viewable area) running 1260x1048 (pro: cheaper than LCD, max resolution of 1600x... but heavy as hell, big as hell and lots of heat) or A nice high end 17" LCD with 17" viewable area (light weight, less heat, less room than a the 19" beast, very crisp and bright images, but expensive - $800) :helpme Also can the LCDs handle being on 24/7 365 days a year :) ? |
I have a 20" Trinitron CRT which I paid 130$US.
the same thing in a LCD is more like 700-800$, it was a no contest. |
Buy a Viewsonic. They are incredible with gorgeous color saturation and deep black contrast, crisp text, solid warranty, and extremely bright. I've got the 19" Viewsonic A90 and it blows away my high end Nanao 17" that I used to use.
If you have bucks to spend and price is no object and you want the most incredible monitor on planet earth currently, take a look at this beauty. This one is on my wish list! It gets 204 pixels per inch, 3820 x 2400, 27.6 million RGB dots, with 9.2 mega pixel resolution. The reviews I read about it say the screen image is like looking at photo lab prints its so perfect. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcd_vp2290b.htm I run my screen at 1280 x 1024. |
I have a nice 17" and 19" .24 dot pitch flat panel Trinitron CRTS that I thought were the "cats meow".
But after using this new Sony LCD that I purchased with my Vaio there is no comparison. The crispness and clarity blow cirlcles around the crt's, and it's only 15" viewable to boot! wich is just a tad smaller than the 17" CRT, but still I prefer the LCD hands down. Plus it's smaller, less heat, I will never buy another crt again. LCD is the way to go IMHO. |

holly shit 7 grand! |
do youy play games...no contest then...just work, take the lcd.
|
thanks for the replys :)
KRL, $7gs is a little too much for a monitor IMO. BV, that's the reason I prefer LCDs too. Clarify, brightness, colors, size, weight and heat. Price is double for a 17" LCD than a 19" CRT but hey :) Comfort or economy. grumpy. I don't play games. Just html/gfx/icq work and encode/cut video. |
I have a 19" LCD, of course.
1280x1024 kicks ass. |
I have triple 19" Dell Trinitron Monitors with a Matrox triple head Parahelia card. Fuck LCD's if you have to start at a screen all day.
My display rocks. Brad |
I use this one at 1280x1024
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-0249 With digital DVI and I could never go back |
I run two highest spec 17" monitors, 1 at 1024x768 the ohter at 800x600.
No point going bigger as 1. LCD's aren't as good with high end graphics and have worse pictures than CRT's, no graphics designers use LCD's for that reason. 2. My surfers and porn customers are 90% running at 800x600 and 1024x768 so I think its a good decision to use what my surfers use to make sure no mistakes happen. 3. As an example, go check out www.pichunter.com in 800x600. Can you say OOPSY Sammy |

haha
I just read further down that page... what a site, read the customer comments !!! :thumbsup |
I use a Sony, 21", MultiScan GDM-F520 @ 1600*1200. I also have a 17" lcd and damn it totaly suck's comparet do the crt monitor at everything, except from the space it takes. If you use you're computer alot go for the CRT
|
I'm ghetto. I have a 15" monitor running at 1024x768.
Anyone wanna contribute to the "Buy me a 19" LCD" Fund? |
after surfing review sites for 6 hours I found that actually 90% of people that go from 19" CRT to HIGH END LCDs (keyword high end) and thrilled with the LCDs.
LCD it is. Bye bye $1k. :) |

I use a 19" with 1600x1200 all day and my laptop next to it with 1024x768 and it's on about 15 hours a day.
Neither are a problem and my eyes are still 20/20 after 3 years of this. |
Can you compare a LCD monitor and a TFT LCD display from a notebook? My notebooks TFT display sucks compared to a real CRT monitor.

If you are serious do some research on the Samsung Syncmaster LCDs. Go to cnet and hit reviews > hardware > monitors and read all the synmaster reviews. yes, there are still issues with coloring, ghosting (reponse) with the LOW END LCDs but the high end ones are crystal clear. If you ahve the $ go for a plasma display. That will blow you away. |
