Why would two sites dedicated to the same pornstar drop the same day?

I have two completely separate blogs each SEO'd for the same pornstars name. One was on the first page of Google, the other was on the 2nd page. Both are out of the top 100 today. What the fuck happened?

If its virtual maybe someone near you in the IP space is doing something shady?
Heavy interlinking between the blogs?

You have to narrow it down to something the blogs have in common...

even then... I could just be a Google algo tweak.

Blog 2 is the one on second page of serps.

Blog 1 is on first page of serps.

Blog 2 has been riding on second page for awhile, and cresting onto page 1, google allready ranks a very similar site like it on the first page, so you could say, that this puts Blog 2 in the spotlight or under scrutiny.

Blog 2 is very similar to Blog 1. Blog 2 is also hosted at the same place as Blog 1. Blog 1 and Blog 2 have similar link patterns and outbounds. Blog 1 and Blog 2 seem to have links from generally the same places, content from the same places, and outbounds to the same places.

Both Blogs are most likely spam, and/or from the same network and devalued to a certain degree as if they were duplicate.

Blog 1 falls from 1st page, and Blog 2 falls from 2nd page (allthough Blog 2 pushing to page 1 most likely triggered BOTH blogs from being devalued, so in theory both blogs got pushed from the first page.)

This is just a guess, but its a pretty educated guess, I've seen it happen to myself and I even warned you specifically that you wanted to push the higher ranked one to the top, and not the lesser. Its possible that this only lasts for a few days to a few weeks while it reranks them, for now get some UNIQUE fresh content on them (relevant) and get them some real links (dont buy them unless you have to, find some good ones).

WORD TO THE WISE.

Do not try to take more then 1 spot in the top 10, unless you have solid resources, a very smart link strategy, and content to prove they both belong there. (for real rankings that last.) Its late and I might be crashed when you get this, but feel free to hit me up and I'll take a look at it if you need/want.

I'd assume both blogs were SEO'd in the same way. It's pretty clear that the methods you used are no longer liked by Google. Either inbound link issues/devaluation or over optimized on-site factors. But over optimization will only drop you a few pages usually, not 10.

But if it's only a day, wait a while. Could come back.

BTW, Matt Cutts reads this forum and takes notes of every domain then feeds that to the Google Super Computer at night.

urine sample?

I appreciate all the the responses. The one below is the one I'm assuming is correct. Jdoughs, good memory, we did speak about this. I'll try to find more unique content. They dont interlink but share many inbound links from sites that link to both :(

I would say don't start building links and throwing up content just yet. Let things settle out.

I've seen so many people fall in rank, then start building links and adding keyword rich content only to see further drops. So what do they do? Add MORE links and MORE text only to get further down.

Your link building technique may be flawed here and doing more of the same may hurt you worse. So let things settle down, see if you stabilize or even bounce back a bit before making any huge changes.

I've had blogs go from 7K google uniques a day to about 350 for a week only to return back to normal.

Can try a 301 redirect from site 2 to 1 to get 1 back in...

That blows man. My 'real job' is suddenly no longer mine due to the Bush economy so I'll have to try despite the lameness you described.
