Insurance claim help - they are trying to replace my LAPTOP with a pile of crap

So my VAIO laptop died, dirty power / dodgy electrics etc, not sure exactly why, just is dead.

It cost me $1980 about 3 years ago, and at the time, damn good machine. Of course the spec now is the lowest possible you can buy.

I put in a claim, and they've offered to replace it with....a VAIO NS something or other, intergrated crappy graphics and 1Gb ram piece of shit at $800.

How the fuck is that a "replace like for like" policy?

Talk about being sucked in.

Going to fight it.

are the specs pretty much the same as what you bought 3 years ago?
Isn't depreciation and usage allowed to be considered as well. I mean you did get 3 years of use out of it. Hell do you think you would even get 800.00 out of yours assuming it worked and was sold?

Only thing I could see as being wrong was if the specs are different.

I'd take new replacement laptop, sell it on Ebay, take whatever profit you get and put it towards a better one.

How is it getting replaced ? Did you buy an extended warranty or something when you originally bought it ?

Your 3 year old laptop is a pile of crap now. Count your lucky stars you're getting something back from it.

I think the Ebay option is probably the best. Your Home Insurance policy covers all sorts of things :winkwink:

Well actually, I am getting a bit greedy with it now :1orglaugh I should count myself lucky to get anything. Just had my eye on a 4Gb Lenovo with 512mb dedicated graphics :)

The spec is about the same.

the ebay option is the best, insurance sucks like that but on things like cars you are happy it's like for like because thats where they get fucked

NRMA. I can see where they're coming from with the depreciation etc. Just a shame, was looking forward to a better new toy :1orglaugh
