GPS and paper map
I dont get it. GPS is $300+, a paper map is $3. Why do I buy GPS receiver? Basically, if you really need GPS it means you are fucking lost, if so it means 99% of your battery is fucked, hardly can be used to locate and get you out. No, really, i never used it, always have a road map in my car, easy as fuck, no battery required and can be used to wipe an ass too.

GPS was developed by the US military, to accurately pinpoint a units location, which is needed for things like more accurate artillery fire, medevacs, arial and nautical navigation, etc. It wasnt meant for civilians to replace thier paper maps, although it does come in very handy. The US military can shut off civilian use of GPS in an instant, if necessary.

Actually, a GPS is more than just a method to find your way to your destination.
This summer I had an 8 hour drive with my 2 kids in the back seat, and in the middle of Michigan, the highways are empty. Nothing but trees on either side but it was hitting 5pm. So I reach over and hit "Find Food" on my GPS and it tells me there's an Olive Garden 2.3km away. So I hit Go and it takes me there. Can I do that with a paper map while doing 70mph on the highway? I think not. |
