One of the best things about this business for me - is the commute.

My morning commute consists of me getting out of bed, going to the bathroom, then I go into the kitchen, and then the computer room.

Saw this yesterday on the news.
I can believe it because the fog plays tricks on your eyes. You think the car is further in front of you but really its closer. Objects in the Mirror are Closer than they Appear Effect!

Last I saw on the local news, no casualties, 40 injuries, 9 critical...I am SO glad I cancelled my doctors appt! I would have been IN that mess!

When I used to live in Phoenix... it got so hot you'll see ppl boxing on the third lane. I only liked it when it was a catfight.

There was a large pileup like that on the freeway north of Milwaukee 2 weeks ago..heavy lake effect fog,something like 40 cars..unfortunately there were 10 fatalities:(

LA traffic is the worst. One of the reasons I moved in 94. You can't plan on being anywhere on time. Its always unpredictable and probably the only place in the world where you get traffic jams day night and in between.

And the fricking smog from all the cars out there you see when you fly in to LA, this ugly yellow cloud hanging over everything. Its so bad your lungs get the same crap as if you were a smoker.

I lived there for 16 years and finally came back east and moved to sunny gorgeous South Florida. This place ROCKS!!

Here we deal with pretty bad drivers too, especially the retired folks and the tourists. But at least you don't have to deal with traffic jams as much. During the season when all the snowbirds come down you get more accidents and such, but its still way less than LA.

Yeah and only 8 people injured. The ironic thing after watching the news after the Sopranosabout the 710 freeway I saw a dead Biker on a Rice Rocket motorcyle. they closed 4 lanes of the pomona freeway. It was gross and morbid . This bike was in peices and so was he.

the 710 in to Long Beach was a mess when I was last there... you got all these huge trucks coming in and out of the ports squeezed in with cars in these fucked up lanes half under construction... and I never saw a cop pull anyone over for speeding in LA. Driving through there was like playing frogger, but still not half as crazy as Canal Street in NYC on a Friday night hehe...

I'd say maybe the slowest, but NYC is worse for body damage to your car :)

Shit I was right, it was the 710... I used to drive that many times each week to see my friend Pablo... There are just too many trucks on that road.

I missed it by a few minutes. cops had the onramp blocked off. stupid fucking califonia drivers...They come to a complete stop on the freeway as soon as 1 drop of water touches the ground. Yet they drive through the wall of fog like it makes no difference.. Luckily Im from back east where we learn such driving talents as hydroplaning aroung corners, donuts in the parking lot and DDB - driving during blowjob. Stupid californians....

There was a show on TLC about a 60-70 (or something, i can't remember) car pile-up with a bunch of fatalities quite a while ago. It was caused by a huge amount of fog, which was common for the area. Except, on this day, the fog was so thick, you couldn't see your feet.

After some analysis, a nearby (3 miles away) paper plant was found to be producing 1.5 million gallons of water vaper / day, in comparison to about 390 gallons / day being produced by the lake around the highway. That with some kind of weird weather effect on the day caused the water vapor to stay low. They had visual confirmation of this weather effect on that day.

Hmmm... I wonder if the fog was natural... or unnatural?

i wonder how many of the people in front that caused and how many that failed to slow down for the fog will be cited and/or have their licenses suspended.

i'm guessing 0.

Actually, I remember hearing the cause of crashes like this are because people DO slow down, causing other people to slam into them.

Spooky stuff, ive driven in heavy fog before a few times, and it sucks.
