Why are the 'Becks' considered, by some, as British Royality (in regard to celeb status) over there?

Is it just because they have all their teeth?

Beckham isn't considered royalty, he is just respected because he "served" his country if you like, and he is very dedicated. I can't say the same for his wife though. :1orglaugh

I do not follow sports, in any country, but wasn't he just some soccer player?

Yeah but even though he isnt anywhere near the best, i think he is one of the most dedication and would sacrifice alot for his country, you can see him dying to play in the England team, though i don't know where you get the royalty thing from...they are far from that status trust me :1orglaugh

I have seen them referred to that in mags, as well as some TV shows.

It could very well be just more of the 'paps' crap, and them referring to them that way. But since I know little about him, and all I know about her is that she has nice toes, and was in some lame ass Brit girl group 10 years back....

Royalty would be more like Paul McCartney though there was alot of bad stuff in the press about him recently because he decided to play a concert in Israel, and basically contradicting his message of peace and love by playing in such a place, but yes i would say Paul McCartney is the closest to royalty for a person who isn't genetically a royal.

No see..*they* consider themselves British royalty and sell that as a brand. What they really are the top of the British tabloid whore chain.

Oh and on British teeth. I have a theory that that used to be the case because the British are now used to getting their health care on the NHS but most dental care is not available on the NHS and they simply aren't used to having to pay for medical care so many just left things go. However, it is no longer true and there are cosmetic dentistry places popping up faster then Starbucks. Just give it a generation and it will be a total myth for all but the people that eat nothing but chips for meals and then that is the same as trailer parks back home.

Exactly, they may think they are but they are sadly deluded. I have alot of respect for him more than her but their both quite tacky imo.

Oh hey, another thing that may have started the royalty tag crap. When they got married they went to some posh castle out in Ireland, and they were sitting on thrones for some of the pics for one of those celebrity magazines.

Im pretty certain it was them, thats the kind of shit that snowballs in the media until it becomes the norm.

The UK does 'national treasures' rather the royalty substitutes and whoever mentioned McCartney was on the right track and that was obvious in the way people were going to hate his ex-wife no matter what because she was with 'our Paul'. Ringo on the other hand, isn't thought of like a national treasure as shown to the reaction of his peace and love video last week.

David Beckham is given a bit of respect on the field because he captained his country BUT whenever he is mentioned in conjunction with his wife the media sneers because she is considered a media whore (but a rich one). They will talk about him wearing stupid outfits and pretty much blaming it on her. He got his honor from the Queen last year or whenever but you know 'they' (the people around the real Royalty) are doing to hold out giving him any sort of honor where *she* can then be called Lady or Dame.

As somebody that sort of straddled both cultures it was interesting to see her selling herself to the USA. Even seeing her on shows like Project Runway being introduced as a style icon. Yeah, because she said so. The same reason it actually is given press space when she cuts her hair.
