Uploader may get 5 yrs in prison

cliffnotes

The guy uploaded 9 songs to his website from the new guns n roses album
he could get 3 years for copyright infringement or 5 yrs if it was for profit

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081021/...s_gunsnroses_2

so does axl have more money than the adult industry ?

this happens hundreds/thousands of times a day in adult with tube sites

i wonder if they sent him a dmca notice or just talked to the right people ?

NaughtyRob 10-20-2008 10:21 PM

Wowza. :-)

Zorgman 10-20-2008 10:28 PM

If he had an upload by surfer he would have got away with it.

Jens Van Assterdam 10-20-2008 10:30 PM

why should that make a difference in the scope of a potential prison sentence?

KillerK 10-20-2008 10:41 PM

I think he was trying to time-shift the songs

as a webmaster he might have got away with it, but whoever the uploader was should be the one that faces the music

the same goes for tube sites, there should be an effort to go after the uploaders (even if it is someone that is involved with the ownership of the tubesite itself in some way)

simply settling for dmca removal cooperation isnt getting us anywhere...... can't lawyers go directly to a subpoena for ip information the moment copyright violations are discovered??

if it were a civil case yes, but i dont think an armed robber who steals $5000 gets much different than an armed robber who steals $500,000

i dont write or interpret the laws....

piracy is piracy as far as i am concerned, but lets face it.. no one uploading porn to a tube site is going to face jail time...

wootpr0n 10-20-2008 10:55 PM

That is really gay.

There is a website where the songs have been online for over a year, and it is hosted in the US. But the RIAA doesn't give a shit about it. And it gets a million hits a day.

I think that they just like making examples out of people who seem like average joes with blogs.

Rochard 10-20-2008 10:56 PM

The difference is everyone takes a well known music group seriously. But when your a pornographer no one gives a shit.

so then maybe the key is getting well known music groups in your porn videos :winkwink: :thumbsup:thumbsup

SuckOnThis 10-20-2008 11:19 PM

Guns and Roses has a new album?

GigoloShawn 10-20-2008 11:20 PM

...and now Metallica is putting their crap on YouTube, begging people to buy it.

Oh, how the tides have turned.

JamesK 10-21-2008 01:38 AM

Nobody really cares about the adult industry. Hell, I doubt even the majority of the adult industry cares about itself. Ofcourse there are people who care, but not enough to take action.

dav3 10-21-2008 04:13 AM

What a terrible use of the FBI and taxpayer money. Especially when the FBI has trouble finding agents to investigate more important stuff.

seeandsee 10-21-2008 04:18 AM

that's fucked

V_RocKs 10-21-2008 05:42 AM

According to the FBI you don't see people getting busted for this with porn because no porn company will step forward and lodge a complaint. Possibly because they don't want the average Joe that buys porn to read an article about torrents and such in the news paper.

Iron Fist 10-21-2008 05:52 AM

Wouldn't that ever suck to be in prison and have to explain why your there....

Bubba: "So what are you here for..."
Kid: "Copyright Infrigement"
Bubba: "Copy what? You kill something?"
Kid: "No.. it's a computer crime..."
Bubba: "Pooter?"
Kid: "Yeah I copied and uploaded a song..."
Bubba: "Nevermind... take off your pants and bend over..."

pr0 10-21-2008 06:08 AM

good i hope they start throwing all these lilly white college kids in prison right along with the rapist & murderers

so in the end, the public can see the absolute ridiculousness of it all :2 cents:

Agent 488 10-21-2008 06:25 AM

same songs on youtube - but no one gives a shit.
