The American Election process...

Seriously. It's a dog and pony show and nothing more.

L-Pink 10-15-2008 07:35 PM

And a poor one at that.

RedShoe 10-15-2008 07:36 PM

Thanks Captain Obvious. Now go watch a hockey game and let us Americans pretend to think it matters.

Evil Chris 10-15-2008 07:37 PM

I still can't believe that the election isn't simply popular vote. The electoral college seems like the biggest trick ever played on the American Public. to the extent that if someone wanted to win by popular vote they wouldn't even have to make appearances in small states... yeah, I get that... but nonetheless, I feel like Americans should have their votes counted 1 at a time.

The irony of that is the candidates don't go to the small states anyways because they don't have many electoral votes. Seriously how many campaign stops are made in Montana, Utah, Alska, N Daktoa, S Dakaota, Idaho, etc? NONE why because the GOP knew they had those states wrapped up and the Dems knew they couldn't win them? Do you see a republican campaigning in Hawaii, Massachusettes, Rhode Island, New York anymore? No of course not. Hell republicans don't even really try in California anymore even though it has 55 electoral votes.

If they are going to stick to this stupid electoral college then they need to do it by congressional distric. If you win that district you get that electoral vote and the statewide popular vote winner gets the 2 extra votes that come from the Senate.

Gore loses Florida by 600 votes out of 6 million and he gets ZERO electoral votes and Bush gets all of them? That's fucked.

What would it take to reform the electoral process then?
Would any president have the balls to tackle something like that?

It would be congress that would have to tackle that. And i'm pretty sure something of that nature would not have the 2/3 vote it would need to change the constitution.

SO lets call it a Pony show? You are an idiot the election is no joking matter and its not like your retarded Parlament system has anything over the American system.

Why ya need the queen of England to approve of a parlament dismissal in Canada?

The reason why the Electoral system works is because the USA is made of States ( DUH ) and each state of the union is its own government under a federal system. For each state the Majority of that state establishes its vote as a whole to the Federal System.

Majority still rules by the outcome of each state. I never liked the Electoral system myself at first but after some reading about the matter it makes sense. Your lack of understanding makes you blurt out retarded shit like "Your vote does not matter". Umm yeah the fuckin vote matters every vote in each state counts.

That's the part that bothers me. It's everyone or no one in some states, and that's ridiculous. the number of people that voted for gore in FLorida was larger than some of the small states bush won.

Bingo.

And here's the verbage ...
"Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or person holding an office of trust or profit under the United States, shall be appointed an elector."

Doctor Dre 10-16-2008 01:41 PM

I have to agree with AlienQ there, the US system is probably the best in the world as far as getting everyone's voices heard.
