Iron Fist 10-14-2008 03:33 PM

CDSmith 10-14-2008 09:03 PM

I'm not surprised by the outcome at all, having predicted Harper getting another minority government. For one, not enough Canadians have enough faith in him or ANY party or their leaders for that matter to award them a majority. And for another thing the existence of the Bloc means a large chunk of the votes are diverted away from the PCs and the Libs making it harder than ever for anyone to win a majority.

Yet if there was ever a time when Harper had a golden opportunity to do so I'd say it was now, what with a lot of voters being none too thrilled with Dion himself let alone his carbon tax. Hopefully he will step aside as leader after this, because I think he's done like last night's thanksgiving turkey.

For the record in my own riding, a very French community that has traditionally been a Liberal stronghold, the Conservatives won this time. Our new MP is a former cop, who can hopefully put some extra oomph behind Harper's plan to put harsher boots to criminals, especially young offenders who lately seem to be getting away with everything.

Interesting election but I think he (Harper) could have waited another year or two to call it. Now really wasn't the best time to spend the millions of tax dollars it takes to have one and he's likely going to take some heat for it.

Hehe your in St Boniface... was interesting to see that stinkin Liberal get ousted. I voted Cons last time and he won, but not this time... I think there was an even bigger protest vote this time, either way... good. If Sheila does well i'll go back to Cons next election. Why I hate the liberals? The fucking GST... I am NEVER voting liberal ever again until the GST is gone.

Indecisive 10-14-2008 09:14 PM

Yep, I voted, for all the good it did.

You're definitely right about the protest vote. I think, by the voting tallies posted, a lot of people threw their vote either to the PCs or the NDP (although their candidate looks a little young, as in "snot-nose kid" type of young), and a few more than usual to the GP, in large part (I think) to send a message to the Libs that their leader isn't the man for the job.

The rest of the tide was simply because Glover ran as high a profile campaign as Simard did but really pushed forward some of these new issues that are in the limelight right now such as Harper's stance on crooks. Good timing since at least in my perception crime has been on the rise in recent years in St. B. (I've been here for 18 years, originally a St. James boy)

The libs need to bring in a leader that is more dynamic, personable, and more in tune with the majority of Canadians than Dion was, no question. If they do then that may be the one positive to come out of this election for them.

starpimps 10-14-2008 09:51 PM

my tax dollars gone to a useless election...what happened to that fucking law harper passed about calling these kinds of bullshit elections
