The KKK in the US Senate and Congress

Did you know that Robert Byrd, the oldest US Senator, was a member of the KKK?

The Ku Klux Klan. Here is an old quote of his:

Quote:

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.
If something were to happen to the President, the Vice President, and the Speaker of the House (Nancy Pelosi), Robert Byrd (a former member of the KKK) would be our President.

So a (former) KKK member is only 3 spots away from being President of this country.

How's them apples? :1orglaugh

Now guess what... he is a Democrat. Who do you think he is voting for?

Yep, he is endorsing Obama.

Sen. Robert Byrd, one-time KKK member, backs Barack Obama

So if a former KKK member is voting for Obama, so can you! :1orglaugh

Time to Vote Obama!

What has not been in dispute is Byrd's mea culpas. The Post piece ended with this quote from him:

"I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times ... and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened."

-- Don Frederick

(UPDATE: Comic Jay Leno, during the monologue for his late night show Monday, broached the Byrd endorsement. "That's got to make Hillary feel good, huh? Even the Klan guy is going, 'I?m going with the black guy.'")

the KKK took my baby away...

Yeah it is cool to see someone come around like that, so much in the public eye.

You can either hate the guy for his KKK days, or like him because he has admitted he was wrong.

It is pretty amazing to see what this election is bringing. Even Pa Byrd voting for the "black" guy. :)

There is a documentary out there about the history of the KKK. Its amazing how many people in positions of power were in that organization.

you dont believe me, but watch, after the results are in, youll see that the South is gonna rise on this one. Watch the support for Obama in the south, and you can bump this thread later.

Notice all that hateful, "kill him" "hes a terrorist" McCain rally stuff, that didnt happen in the south, that was middle america.

The South is waaaaay less racist than people think, its those pople in Ohio and shit that are crazy!

everyone loves democracy as long as they agree with the outcome!

My cousin works for him today as a secretary/assistant and worked for Rockefeller before that. He's not a bad guy and he's not a racist. People do change and you have to remember, the guy grew up in a different time from today he grew up before desegregation and a lot of people had those same kind of views back then.

Besides that you don't have to worry about him being a President, because this is his last term he's been ill and won't be returning to office.

It cracks me up that something like the KKK ever existed. I don't care what your personal preferences are, but everyone has the same rights....

I have it on good authority that he changed his views after the release of The Dark Brothers' 1985 classic "Let me tell you about black chicks"
